Hi. Ever since I first downloaded VirtualDubMod, I've never been able to build a functioning MKV with it. I always have to use MKVTools.
Any MKV I create with VDM plays for 1 second and then crashes my player. The player I'm using is Media Player Classic 6.4.8.2 with internal Matroska support shut off (I use an external splitter).
Anyway, I'm using VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 Build 2366. I'm also using what I believe to be the latest Matroska splitter and muxer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
EDIT: I'm using splitter 1021 and muxer 1008. They are installed properly. I also have upgraded to VDM build 2424, which still does not fix the problem.
This problem has occured across multiple video cards, motherboards, and drive reformats, BTW.

Virtualdubmod hasnīt been updated - while Matroska itself has.
I donīt even bother trying to use VDubMod for MKV. Maybe after it gets updated...

Then what do you suggest I do to cut movies with OGG audio in half? Mux the whole 1.4gb file into an OGM, and then split it in two, and then run both halves through MKVTools? I think I tried that once, and it didn't work...
Thanks.
EDIT: Well, I figured out how to split the MKV, and both parts even worked for a while, but once I deleted all the other files (VOBs, SSA, etc) they only played for a second each and then died! WTF?

Try AVIMuxGui 1.6.9. In the options set your desired file size for splitting. Read the manual for instructions on how to join. It should handle OGG Vorbis audio correctly. And contrary to the name, it excels at MKV output in addition to AVI. It's the only muxing application that I've yet to find a significant problem with, and the only one that can properly join complicated files (Try joining 2 seperate matroska files with vorbis audio and muxed in text *and* vobsubs - nothing else can handle them, but AMG will do just fine.

Thanks, I'll check it out!
It sure beats first encoding the WAV audio into OGG, muxing it with an audio-less AVI video into an OGM, splitting the resulting OGM in two, demuxing the OGG audio in each OGM, converting each OGM video stream into AVI again, and then running each half's video and audio through MKVTools!
BTW, how does AVIMuxGui handle keyframes when splitting a file? I know that if the second half doesn't start with a keyframe, it will search backward until it finds one, meaning some video overlap between the two parts. Or is this only an AVI issue? I can't imagine it is...
Thanks.

I don't split files anymore since moving to DVD, but as I recall, it AMG has an algorithm that starts looking for keyframes within some pre-determined setting of your target file size for the split, and then tries to pick the best KF to split on to not undersize or oversize too much. I'm pretty sure it always splits on a KF from what I remember.
