View Full Version : Recode 2 bugs (2.2.6.1)
plonk420

shall we gather bugreports here like in the Ateme beta?
---
my first encode from DVD was from Excel Saga ep 1. chose the 2.0 japanese track (letting ND choose bitrate for me) and the first english subtitle track. and selected a filesize of 81mb (732mb divided by 9 eps).
result: undersized by either 3 or 7mb depending on how you look at it (74.5 MB (78,128,253 bytes)). also the audio was askew by a fraction of a second, and increased as the episode progressed.
i'm encoding the 2nd ep to see if the bug occurs again, but thought i'd post to see if anyone else has had that happen to them.
two notes, tho: does it matter that i'm encodign straight of the DVD? (i'm using DVD43, an AnyDVD-like on-the-fly CSS/RC removal app) also, is Nero Digital assuming subtitles are X megs large (constant size) taken from an average size they are on a full-length DVD?
edit: also, is there a way to simply cut MP4s (kind of like MPEG2Cut)? i'd like to post a sample of the beginning and end of the video without demuxing then muxing again. Ateme's MP4 Tool Box doesn't let you demux subs, and even if you could, i don't know the -switch to remux the subs back into the MP4...
edit2: second rip attempt of Ep 2 is desynched in audio, too

i can confirm there does seem to be an audio synch issue when i encoded get over it.
In fact after more analysis it seems the sync comes back after a scene change. but it does look to me to be very slightly off maybe im being fussy.
There is a more obvious audio sink issue in vlc but thats another issue.

i used both the beta h264 filters and reinstalled the latest NVE. i also used MPC and also Nero Showtime. all have the sync issues.

I get sync issues too
I've tried playing the files with both showtime and MPC both were async...

5th December 2004, 09:39
I've noticed that the files play out-of-synch if your pc doesn't have enough processing power to decode the video in real time. That might be happening to you.
virux
5th December 2004, 09:42
my pc can decode them with processing power to spare...
the main movie decodes properly... (in sync) while the extras are async... (has smaller resolutions)

I get a error (http://img86.exs.cx/img86/6710/23-Error.png) when I try to import a avs as source...
If I change the colorspace to RGB/YUY2, recode disappears !!!

Soulhunter,
What's your script look like (if it fits in one post ;)!)
Perhaps try "MakeAVIS" from ffdshow to see if that works for you in the mean time.
Soulhunter
5th December 2004, 14:45
Well, it happens with all my AviSynth scripts !!!
Even with very simple scripts like this...
mpeg2source("C:\TestFiles\Test4.d2v")

pretty sure my computer's fast enough. video's 480 x 352, and MPC reports playback at 29.970.

Finally I found a way to solve my problem... :)
The Warpsharp.dll in AviSyth's plugin folder was the culprit !!!

It was the culprit in my situation as well... that was weird. But now the new recode will read avs's fine. Cheers

Two new bugs...
- Importing files a 2nd time (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=577844#post577844)
- Audio bitrates when using profiles (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=577844#post577844)

Seeing all your reports, I'm saying myself we should have run a beta test for Recode too :)
Anyway thanks for your feedback, we're currently checking for all the issues and be sure we'll try to fix them for the next update.
ps: please provide us with your configuration, system setup, etc. as detailed as possible so we can reproduce and correct the problems you have.

DirectShowSource("xxx.mp4") in AviSynth 2.5.5 reports that it cannot detirmine the length of the video stream. Audio doesn't work either.

would be really nice to have a page or a post where one will collect all errors so that people don't have to read the whole thread to see if their issue is already mentioned by other people.
and what's this?

I spoke to soon about not having ny problems. The decode froze at 2h 55m (out of 3h 12m). Problem was repeatable both in Zoom Player and Showtime, as well as in the orginal Recode file on the computer.

now i tried to encode a dvd and dispite i saw the video in the 2nd pass preview the result was a "audio only" mp4 file with about 2.8mb.

As reported by Soulhunter, the audio stream setting bug is indeed odd: -
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=577735#post577735
I confirm that I too am experiencing the same problem: -
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=577751#post577751
And many thanks bobololo and to everybody at Ateme who made the Mpeg4/AVC codec possible :)
Cheers

how about the missing utils.cpp file?`any chance to fix it?
currently i don't feel like reinstalling (if this would help)
i just can't figure out why some clips encode correctly and then just changing the lenght of the enocode i.e. 3mins -> 5mins length ends with a 16kb file (if i don't encode audio)
at least it seems not to be related to the eudio options.....
if i can do anything to help to get rid of this problem just tell my :)

Try uninstalling ffdshow. That way DirectShowSource will use Nero's filters exclusively.
If that works, then try reinstalling ffdshow, but disable the H.264 and AAC playback (I tried DirectShowSource with an AC3 file yesterday and it only worked when I uninstalled ffdshow - gave me the "filter graph" message)

Anyhow, I will follow ya advice and uninstall ffdshow...
Maybe raising the merit of the NeroFilters would work as well !?!

Hey Soulhunter,
Have you tried converting PAL 720x576 DVD sources to 1024x576 Mpeg4/AVC yet?
I've generated a few quick "low bitrate" clips using the Lanczos resizer... they look good ;)

till now no progress in finding out why nve only writes null-files to my harddrive (at least when encoding longer files)
i'll install it on my server now and check it again.
my server hasn't installed any other additional direct show filter despite xvid (and avisynth 2.5.5) but don't expect any results before tomrrow^^ since it's a p3-550 :D

did another video (a single chapter); seems the first time i encoded, i had all options enabled. all i got was audio. the second time i encoded, i disabled Deblocking, Psychoacoustic (or whatever), and Weighted Predicition. not sure which of those caused the video to encode (if it was indeed one of those).

i also tried deactivating various settings but i couldn't figure out any specific setting which causes this problem. it seems system related since my server encode worked fine till now. i'm currently testing nve on two other machines which haven't installed any other video related software/filter. maybe it's caused by another filter....
maybe someone from the recode 2 crew could help us with excluding some errorsources.

Recode aborted the encode in the middle of the second pass (of the second pass) as a result of me logging into the machine using remote desktop connection on the same user account recode was running under.
When the desktop came up, the recode window immediately hung for several seconds at 0 frame rate without updating, then reported a burn failed abort and created a logfile. Recode didn't stay hung or exit or anything like that.
I wonder if it has to do with rendering the preview window in the lower left corner of the progress window through remote desktop connection?
