View Full Version : Best way to evaluate ntsc2pal result when don't have PAL DVD player?

I have been using Xesdeen's 'Poorman's ntsc2pal’ conversion script for some time but recently have added limitedSharpen and MVbob.

I am trying to figure out how best to evaluate the results. The problem is that I am in Canada and wanting to send converted video (as a PAL DVD) to my family in the UK. I can play the PAL DVD on my PC but I don’t think that displaying it non-interlaced using WinDVD or PowerDVD is any measure of what it looks like when played on a UK PAL DVD player into a PAL TV set.

I have figured out how to tweak the video using IFOEdit so that it fools my Sony NTSC DVD player into playing it but it doesn't work too well as it is very jumpy. Since adding MVBob the video played on my PC definitely looks smoother but I have no idea how it would appear when played on a PAL DVD player.

Unfortunately my DVD player is not a multi-region machine and even though I can fool it into playing the NTSC disk I don't think the results are representative.

Does anyone have any ideas how I might go about creating the video using the 'poormans ntsc2pal script' but being able to view it on NTSC equipment?

For example, instead of setting the framerate to 25 and the size to PAL size (whatever that is) I could set it to the NTSC frame rate and size, then I could play on my NTSC player. But although the deinterlacing and weave, etc will still be done by the pal2ntsc script will the results viewed on my NTSC player give me any indication of what it will look like for the PAL version when played on the PAL equipment in the UK?

I hope the above makes sense, sorry if the description is a bit convoluted,
