I work with Premiere 6 (access to Prem Pro) >>> TMPG >>> and finish in Impression Pro (learning Encore 1.5). All PAL

The aim is to compile commercials I have shot in various formats onto a showreel DVD for distribution to potential clients.

The problem is that these various projects are supplied to me on Mini DV. Some are for the US and so shot 4:3, finished in PAL (then they convert to NTSC). Most projects are shot 16:9. Sometimes they are supplied to me on Mini DV already letterboxed. Sometimes they are supplied squeezed into 4:3.

The question. Is it possible to produce a DVD that has the ability to show the various format types in their correct formats. The best I can do so far is to allow the 4:3 projects to appear stretched into widescreen.

Where is the information for the format embedded into the DVD. By Premiere? By TMPG? or by Impression?

There are two places where the information is embedded for DVD: in the encoder (TMPEG in your case) and in the DVD Authoring program (Impression?) Most DVD players ignore the info in the MPEG stream and uses whatever the .ifo file says (from the Authoring program)

It is possible to produce DVD's with both aspect ratios (4:3 & 16:9), but you need to put different aspect ratios in different VOB sets.
