View Full Version : Nero problem with 0-byte vobfile

Hi All,

I used VobBlanker and DVDShrink to copy a DVD. The original dvd contained a file VTS_02_0.VOB of 0 bytes. After some blanking with VobBlanker, there was still a file VTS_02_0.VOB of 0 bytes. Then, after DVDShrink, the empty vobfile was not copied to the target folder. When I want to burn it with Nero 6.6.0.0 (new->DVDVideo), I get the message 'Required file VTS_02_0.VOB not present' (Continue yes/no). Being smart as I am ;-) I copied the original VTS_02_0.VOB to the DVDShrink output directory and tried again. Then I get the error 'File size is not a multiple of logical block size (2KB)' (Continue yes/no).
What is the best thing to do ?
1) Go ahead and burn it without the VTS_02_0.VOB file ? (ignoring the error about the missing file)
2) Go ahead and burn it with the VTS_02_0.VOB file ? (ignoring the error about the logical block size)
3) Something else ?

I get the feeling that 2) is the best option, since 0 bytes IS a multiple of 2KB, and the original VTS_02_0.VOB is also 0 bytes. Is there any need to do a 'Get VTS Sectors' in IFOEdit first? I guess not, since a 0-bytes file does not add up to the number of sectors...

Any help is appreciated !

Hi TheJez,

I recommend you #1 scenario. Standalones ignore all "zero bytes" files so there is no reason to keep them on the disc. So delete all such files, perform ifoedit´s "get VTS sectors" (to be 100% on the safe side) and burn.

And if I can give you another piece of advice than do not use nero for burning DVD-VIDEO. My suggestion is ImgTool classic (www.coujo.de) and DVD Decrypter. In my opinion the safest way (and 100% free :) )to get the most compatible compilation.

Thanks Coona,

What I did is make images of both options, mounted them in Daemon Tools and then tested them. It turned out that both had a navigation problem: The intitial option was to select the desired language: English or dutch. When english was selected, all was fine, but when dutch was selected, the disc halted and only continued after pressing play again. So it seemed that VobBlanker destroyed some navigational stuff. I decided to re-do the disc, using just DVDShrink and replaced the extras with stills. Now all is fine.
Thanks for your input anyway, although I'm not 100% convinced that ALL stand alone players accept discs without the 0-byte vob-files. I can imagine that some expect a VTS_XX_0.VOB if there is a VTS_XX_1.VOB, and would refuse to play if there isn't one...

Take care,

You'll have to delete the zero byte vob and all references to it.
