not sure why, but the doom9 mirror i was stuck going to is on one of the blocklists that protowall uses. specifically, it is the anti p2p list.
the log looks like this:
2004/12/02 05:xx:xx [<-] BLOCKED [!] - Destination is Datability Software Systems, Inc. (140.99.103.150) [protocol: TCP / destport: 80]
anyone know why?

blocking lists aren't perfect, and unfortunately the operatorors of such lists are rather quick to add addresses and very slow (down to not moving tempo) when it comes to unblocking a mistakenly blocked address. The Chinese mirror had to go through hoops until I was able to add it to my DNS provider (they use a spammer blocking list). That isn't to say such lists don't have their merits, but they're far from being perfect.
From a simple logic point of view, it wouldn't make much sense that piracy busters use the same server as I do.. there'd be a huge conflict of interest.

agreed on the last, except for the old adage: keep your enemies close.
but, frankly, that is a little too tin-foil-hat, even for me.
thanks for the reply
