Hi,

I've noticed while watching a XviD video, that there are objects in the picture which are supposed not to move, but they're moving to and fro one pixel all the time.

Is anyone familiar with this phenomina?

And what to do about it? Does QPEL help, cos this increases the motion precision as far as I know.

And: does QPEL help at low-bitrate quantization matrices like eqm_v3ulr & eqm_v3lr?

Actually I don't see much difference between pictures with and without QPEL, for GMC either but that seems to be allright I believe.

Any comments?

I saw this phenomenon in several of my back-ups, especially very bright zones/objects. So I looked at the DVD source: this artifact was present in the MPEG-2 video... XviD not to be blame.

But, is this artifact coming from the MPEG-2 encoding process? I could not say (I'm only a noob)...
If yes, could an MPEG-4 (let's say... XviD) encoding lead to the same thing?

Can you look at your source?

About Qpel: try it on the source with the "moving object"!

But for me, Qpel seems to involve some pixels to move in flat areas, like convolutions which are not in the source (that's the reason why I don't use Qpel).
