I am experienced user using the DVD decrypter/cce/maestro/ifoupdate method for creating DVD-R backups. Recently, I have been experiencing difficulties, using Windows XP SP2, and Pioneer DVR-A05 burner. Everything is okay until ready to burn files. I write the VIDEO_TS files to the dvd-r, apparently with no problems from roxio. However, after the writing is complete, the authored disc does not play using standard dvd player or dvd player from within windows. These files work correctly using the ifoedit player, which led me to believe the problem was in the burning process (i.e., files not being translated to new dvd correctly, disc unreadable). I have performed numerous troubleshooting, and have found the error to be that the *.IFO files do not seem to be burning correctly to the DVD (they are unreadable). This causes the DVD not to work. On my latest project, I tried dvd decrypter with my authored disc to try to copy the new disc's files in file mode. It was able to copy all files, except VTS_02_0.IFO through VTS_06_0.IFO. For some reason, it seems like something is blocking the IFO files from recording correctly to dvd. Problems seem to have began around when upgraded to SP2 and upgraded to latest Pioneer firmware for drive, v 1.33.

Here is what I know or have tried:
Tried several different movies with similar results.
Tried first creating image using ifoedit, then use dvd decrypter to burn image to dvd. No errors from dvd decrypter during write process. However, when I try to take that same dvd and extract the files to harddrive again, those IFO files cannot be read or copied. Dvd is unplayable. It appears other files on disc are readable and can be copied (*.vob files).
Tried different software and brands of dvd media.

Suspect the problem lies somewhere in the firmware of the drive from Pioneer, but have been unable to locate similar problem in user forums. The ifo files are as originally decrypted from the source dvd, only as modified by ifoupdate. I am going to try uninstalling sp2 next, but seems pretty extreme to have to do that. Any ideas?

it seems incredible, but i have the same problem. And also the same burner, Pioneer a05! 1.33 firmware and SP2.
I really don't understand why i can play the dvd on my hd perfectly, and after i burn it as dvd-video, the dvd is not readable. I use a DVD-RW TDK to make a try. Maybe the dvd-rw are not suitable for dvd-video?
I burn with bero (the latest version) and now i'm trying with ImgTool. But i have problems also with this.
Next try will be to make a iso file , and try to burn it...

I have still to prove also DVD Decrypter.

I uninstalled windows sp2, and still unsuccessful burning discs. Just a really weird thing going on. I am suprised more people aren't having this problem. Is it just time for a new dvd drive?
