Trying to back up Disney's Aladdin. (R1) I have a Plextor 708UF drive. CloneDVD and DVDXcopy both reach 47% and error out DVD is NEW and plays perfectly.
DVD decryptor is apparently getting to the same progress level and fining a similar problem.

I have Any DVD 4.1.1.2 runing in the background on XP.

A copy of the log so far follows,

I tried retrying the erros it finds. My thoughts are that there a few purposefull bad sectors that the DVD players ignore as a form of copy protection. (much like Game CDs had bad sectors that the launching EXE did its check on) Finally I went to Ignore and DVD Decryptor gave me an option to ignore all errors, and I am nearing 1500 retires at this point. The transfered KBs are slowly increasing, so I am sticking with it to see what the end results will be.

Is this a waste of time? Is there an easier way? Special settings?

Or is this just a game of patience that I will likely play with all Disney releases?

First thing I'd try is upgrading the drives firmware. You should be on 1.08 by now.

http://www.plextor.be/technicalservices/downloads/firmw_708A.asp?choice=DVD-Recorders

With AnyDVD running, my program may not do its job properly. You should disable whilst running DVD Decrypter.

If you have another drive, try reading the disc in that.

Obviously you should check the disc for dirt / scratches too.

What if its just a damaged disk? Is there a way to get it to fast skip read errors? There have been a few disks that I have given up on after hours of trying to extract an ISO to my hard drive. I am referring to disks that I know to be dammaged, I want to get what I can off of them. You can watch them on a set-top-player and barely notice the scraches. But you are unable to extract them.

Is fast skip of read errors in our future?

Thanks Jim

Error skipping is needed. It seems that the disk had an error. Couldnt see it, but another disk recorded no problem.
