Hi,
I am using the nec ND-6100A DVD+RW/DL burner that came with my inspiron8600.
I am experiencing buffer underruns on each dvd video burn. same in all programs i have tried (NERO 6.6.01, DVDdecrypter 3.5.1.0, Roxio, NTI) the problem is that the device buffer drops from 97% to 7% a couple of times during burn, which results in 1 sec freeze when i play it on the computer or any standalone player (have tried 2 software player and 2 standalones)
i have 2 identical inspiron8600 with the same drive, and same problem. i have tried firmware 1.04D, and the 6100@6500 upgrade firmware 2.23 (http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND6500A) but same problem. the 6100@6500 makes this drive able to burn DVD-R aswell, as it is the same hardware as the original 6500A, but same problem.
i have tried placing the content taht is going to burned on 3 differnt harddrives, including the laptop hardrive, also have tried to defrag the disc.
I have tried to burn at 2.4, 4, 6 and 8x but still the same problems. have tried TDK 4x media, memorex 8x media, sony dvd+rw 4x media, still same problem.
i am using windows xp pro sp2, everyting updated
I seem to recall reading that this is normal when the drive is recording in Z-CLV mode. When the drive shifts (speed) zones, the buffer drops to zero, which i have heard if normal for NEC's drives, but when it does, a freeze in the video occurs while playback. here is more informaion about this, currently im not the only one http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=110963
So is there something you can do about this problem, or do i have to look around for a new drive, something other than NEC ofcourse.....
