Why dont they make bigger discs just 1gb would be a start, we would not need to shrink most films just rip the menus and extras.

I think they make most films harder to backup, as when all extras are removed the main part never just fits stuggly its always around 5gb.

Roll on blueRay technology.

:p

you know that bigger movie (mostly) have higher quality

i personally wouldn't mind the 1-disc-with-movie-and-extras-versions to die out

Did you miss out on DL burners?

BTW: You don't really think it is an accident that media available for home-use start out being smaller than those on which movies are sold, do you? Now let's wait and see whether the first-generation BlueRay media for home-use will by any chance perhaps be smaller than the HD-video stored on HD-DVDs...?

Well what i have read on this forum about Dual Layer, i think i will give it a miss for now, i wondered why these were so cheap to start with, as i remembered paying around £250 for my first dvd writer.

I paid 90 US for mine. Although, in certain situations, it has become fashionable to subsidise a product so it's very tempting to buy, yet the unsuspecting customer doesn't account for how much the accessories cost.

Well, I knew this, but I didn't want to have to make another backup years down the road - at least now I don't have to deal with a stream of video on two DVDs for the time being. Yeah, the DVD-R DL's work perfectly in a Philips DVP-642.
