Second burn equals success on DVD+R

I have an Averatec 5400 and the software I am burning with is Roxio Easy Creator 6 ... yes, an old version.

I use DVDShrink to back up my DVDs. I create an .ISO image and then use Roxio to burn on the DVD+R. For two movies, on two different discs, the burn would both fail on the first time. The media is still recognized as blank so I try burning it a second time and it worked both time on the second time.

Is this expected or a known issue? Perhaps since EC6 is an old version, I guess I cannot expect Roxio to patch the bug.

not exactly an answer to your question ...

but personally i would use DVD Decrypter in ISO Write mode to burn my .iso images to a blank DVD. i have not had one single issue in regrads to burning since adopting this method.
