At the moment Recode only supports inserting of subtitles/subpictures if they come from DVD source.

I am not good with the frameserver AviSynth, but maybe you can get the subtitles hardcoded into the material via AVISynth. That is, if the encoder (nero record2?) allows avs as input. There is a way to add e.g. ffdshow as a filter to the avs script, and ffdshow can be set up to display / add the subtitles. But i am guessing here. Just to keep you busy :D

So now i can make my files that'd be quite slow. if hardsubbing is ok for u, try ffdshow. if u set up everything related to subs, the avi will open always with its sub. besides, this way u can use all the postprocessing options of ffdshow as preprocess (pre-filtering). i'm sure u need that if u recode divx movies.

its not necessary to recode your divx5 stream. divx5 streams are like nero digital streams mpeg-4 compliant
use search to find out how to combine subtitles with your divx5 stream into .mp4, as they get created by recode2
