i'm thinking about buying a new machine and debating between the amd 32bit and AMD 64. i've heard that AMD 64 is faster for xvid encoding than 32 bit, but just wanted to make sure before i buy. basically, is it worth getting a 64 bit processor for xvid encoding opposed to 32 bit?

thanks,

I've only ever done xvid encoding on my 64 bit athlon computer. Its pretty fast, only thing is, without a 64 bit os I don't think it gets a lot of use of the 64 bit code. At any rate, 64 bit is here to stay with windows xp 64 bit and plenty of 64 bit linux builds around(I can attest to the fact that they work great) I think a 64 bit proc would be the best choice.

thanks, i bought an AMD 64 3400+, should be enough for xvid encoding. the SATA drives should help a little as well.
