not sure if it's been answered before, i've looked around.

when ripping with dvddecryper, it says the AR is 4:3. this is correct, the video is 2.35:1, but letterboxed to fit the 4:3 AR. when encoding with AGK, it will crop the black bars (top and bottom) so that it will end up with just the 2.35:1 AR with no black bars.

is there a way to keep it letterboxed?

thanks.

No, use the full GKnot if you want to keep the black bars.

just curious, why do you want to keep the letterbox? it's a waste of encoding bits... that's the beauty of cropping with divx or xvid, get rid of things you don't need like the black bars and end credits etc...and make it as small as possible. it's not going to add a lot of overhead to your file size, but some, since nothing moves in the blank space and it should compress VERY well. just curious...

Letterbox encoding is very wasteful of bitrate. From Page 66 of the DivX User Guide (http://www.divx.com/divx/divxpro/guides/):Although the borders themselves are encoded with relative ease, where the border meets the picture a high contrast edge is created that consumes a large number of bits when encoded.
