I made some home-made movies using the XVID codec. On the pc that made them everything's allright.

Now I've copied the movie to another computer in the network. When I play the movie it's slightly laggy. I don't know how to explain but it looks like some frames are missing or something. It's just not right. People's movements are as if they're in the light of a stroboscope.

I don't know how to see the XVID version. I just installed KL mega codec pack 1.14 on both computers. (just pressed ok a lot of times, no settings adjusted during setup)

The movie:
just for testing purposes I did not make any change to the settings. In virtualdub I just selected the XVID mpeg4 codec and set the bitrate to 3200 (just for testing too). It's one pass.

The "good" pc:
amd 3200+, 512 ram, geforce4 128mb (winXP sp2, WMP, media player classic)

The "bad" pc:
amd 1700+, 512 ram, geforce4 64mb (winxp sp2, WMP, media player classic)

Switching media players does not help.

Forgive me for my English, I did the best I could. I'm Dutch.

- Determine the XviD version number: while you're in VirtualDub -> Video -> Compression -> XviD MPEG4 -> click the 'About'-Button. What version number is displayed?
- Determine which decoder is used for decoding: open your encoded (XviD) file in MediaPlayerClassic -> under Play -> Filter: what is it listing there ffdshow? XviD? DivX or what?

Anyway dont install Codec Packs and especially not by just clicking OK OK OK... they're known to cause a lot of problems. So you may want to get rid of it (and all the codecs it installed) if possible and then try to install XviD 1.0.2 from Koepi's homepage (http://www.koepi.org/) or ffdshow (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761&package_id=59355&release_id=274595) to decode the file.

Progress!

-xvid version

version 1.0.2 Koepi's CVS build

And I think you told me where to find the problem.

On the good pc the playback filter is XVID mpeg4.

On the bad pc the filter is Divx Decoder Filter :(

If I didn't screw up the settings the codecpack is guilty :angry: How can I choose the filter manually?

To deactivate the Divx decoder (I don't think divxdecoder is a bad decoder) make this:

Start->Run type "regsvr32 /u divxdec.ax" e voila!

To activate again -"regsvr32 divxdec.ax"

You can't choose the filter manually - or better say -you shouldn't do that!
Unregistering filters is much safer.

May be you should check also the version of the display drivers -
My Computer(properties)->Hardware->DeviceManager->DisplayAdapter(properties)->Driver on both PCs...

Good Luck!
