My problem is that the last 200mb-or-so of a 4700mb burn [dvd+r] often skip/hangup on my standalone player[s] (I have 3 players; some work better than others). I use memorex & ritek 4x media... both will allow me to burn at 6x with my Nero software on my NEC2500a burner... but a 6x burn will guarantee some problems with nearly EVERY disc burned..!!... so, I have cut my burn down to 4x; which yields a flawless playback on about 2/3 of all discs produced... keep in mind that I am referring to FULL [~4700mb] burns, and I only have problems with the last 100-200 mb. on playback on my standalone players. It sure would be great if there was software that would allow a slower burn speed [1x-2x??] just on this last 200-400 mb..?? BTW... playback on my pc never skips; this just happens with standalone players... why this is, I have not a clue... I don't understand the mechanics that well.
Comments..??...input..??...thankx...Rob

Well I personally always burn at 2x. To do this you are mostly going to need to buy discs that are rated at 4x or 2x. anything that is rated 8x will most likely not burn slower than 4x. For example I bought some memorex 8x discs and in nero i could only burn at 4x or 8x. but i usually buy memorex 4x discs and with those I can burn at 1, 2, or 4x. so it all depends on the media you use. Each application has burning models for the different discs. So it will read the manufacturer code on the disc and say Oh this is a memorex 8x disk so I can burn it at either 4x or 8x and nero will give you only those options. So I would say to try and get some good quality 4x discs and give those a try. Ritek G04's, apple brand, some tdk, memorex, verbatim all seem to work great for me.

yeh... I hear ya. My best results are with 4x Memorex [individually wrapped boxes]... if I have the time, I will burn at 2x, & never have a problem..!! You *CAN* see the logic of my question, right..??... the last part of the burn [the rim] is what always seems to have the problem... a nice 1x burn just on this last half-gig would solve a lot of problems. I just too spoiled... 2x burn takes sooo long..!!
