Does udf fs supports files larger than one giga?
since the vobs on dvd have a max size of 1g.....
i am wondering if i could burn like data avis larger tha one giga.
If not, one giga will become the new standard size for divx backupped on dvds...
and if i need a larger avi and have to split, how could i make that the player loads both parts??

If your files are larger than 2GB, you have to use the UDF filesystem afaik. How much data does the burned disc contain (do a dir or look up the value in Explorer) Originally posted by alexnoe
Proper authoring tools, like mkisofs, can write files up to 4 GB to ISO 9660 file systems, but files larger than 4 GB require UDF.
BTW, Nero 5 did show an error if users tried to add large files ..OK, but why then the vobs on dvd are splitted to 1g max??
and about ISO/UDF, from the Nero help
"Creating a UDF CD
Please note that Nero does not yet support Multisession UDF-CDs and that therefore UDF or UDF-Bridge Sessions must be written on blank CDs."
Then to burn in multisession you need to use the ISO format,
so again, what is the max filesize in ISO?
And what is the format for dvd authoring? and which format is used in commercial dvds?

Yes, it does.

Yes, you can burn every kind of file on a DVD, even if it's bigger than 1 GB.
If not, one giga will become the new standard size for divx backupped on dvds...
But since it's possible, 1 GB won't become the new standrd size for divx backupped on dvds...
and if i need a larger avi and have to split, how could i make that the player loads both parts??
Burning the second AVI right after the first one should do it. It depends on the player, I guess, but the players capable of playing DivX may support files > 1 GB. Just try it.
OK, but why then the vobs on dvd are splitted to 1g max??
To ensure compatibility with other systems, which may not support files larger than 1 GB. The 1 GB VOB size is not a limitation given by the file system. Same applies to the names. They're in the old 8+3 format, though long filenames are supported by UDF.
Then to burn in multisession you need to use the ISO format,
so again, what is the max filesize in ISO?
Dunno. But what I know is that multisession is not DVD video compliant.
And what is the format for dvd authoring? and which format is used in commercial dvds?
They usually use ISO/UDF Bridge. Some have Joliet, too. It's possible to use UDF only (I believe some commercial DVDs don't have ISO).
Important is that it's UDF 1.02.

thanks for your reply, i was talking about data dvd.
about video dvd, you could want to put 2 movies in dvd or svcd in 2 different sessions, there is no way for a standalone to see both movies???

I burned a 3GB avi file ones, in an ISO DVD... that was with a old Nero version (I don't remember wich one) after I actualized it, it was not possible anymore... only in UDF system.
Remember that an avi bigger that 2GB is, at the moment, not possible to see it on a standalone.
Greetings! :)

I read the nero help for days, as well searching on the net, didnt find precise info,
just started to burn a file of 2,25g, and nero told me that ISO supports up to 2g, as well the udf/iso bridge system,
thats ok, but, was too much work for those guys to write it on the help so one could know BEFORE start to burn??????????
now im writing in udf to verify if multisession is supported from this file system, naturally the media is a -rw
if not i will made 3 containers of 1500mb for each dvd, thats ok, but why is too hard to find so simple infos???

The maximum file size with UDF is 238GB
OK, but why then the vobs on dvd are splitted to 1g max??That's a DVD-Video limitation and not related to the file systems themselves

Are you sure?? that doesnt make much sense, the iso supporting 2g and the udf only 2,38g....
