Which codec should I use to compress 60 minutes of playback (544x400Resolution, average bitrate 1400 kbits/sec, 25.000 fps, MP3 44100 kHz, 128 kbps) in 1 CD (700MB). Of course the time factor is also important.

Hello, Alexander, welcome to the forum.

There is no "best" answer, to almost any question, since quality evaluation is subjective, and everyone has their own opinions. Often, such dicussions turn into heated arguments, which we want to avoid. See Rule #12 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

Assuming you're interested in MPEG-4 codecs such as DivX, XviD, WMV, Real, and others, you might click on this link to Doom9's codec comparisons (http://www.doom9.org/codec-comparisons.htm). You'll note that how each codec handles specific scene types has a tremendous impact on his evaluations.

You may want to use his methodologies to come to your own conclusions, using your content. But even if you elect not to make that level of effort, I think you should come to the appropriate conclusion that the "answer" you seek is likely content and context specific, not necessarily bitrate dependant.
