Does anybody know why D2SRoBa 3.77 automatically checks Multipass VBR in DVD2SVCD in DVD to DVD mode? The bundled version of D2SRoBa in DVD2SVCD automatically selected One Pass VBR. Was this changed for a reason? I'm pretty new to D2SRoBa, but to my understanding it is a One Pass VBR program. Thanks!

Have a look at the D2SRoBa sticky at the top of this forum.

I believe it was a cunning plan by Tylo to get DVD2SVCD to use it's more accurate multipass bitrate predictions.

So if D2SRoBa is using multipass...why even use it? Or would you change the number of passes to one? I'm not sure if this would work since you can't specify Q.

D2SRoba isn't using multipass, just DVD2SVCD's multipass bitrate prediction bit to be as accurate as possible with that bitrate number that shows up in D2SRoBa's log (it's calculated by DVD2SVCD).

Ahhh, I got ya. That makes more sense. I tested it out using the settings D2SRoBa fills in and it worked perfectly. The same bitrate and file size that DVD2SVCD gave me during a 10 hour encode, D2SRoBa only took 4 hours total to complete the image. This is great stuff now that I understand it. I have a feeling though that there is much more to learn. Thanks!

By the way, what do you usually set your Q at? I put mine at 30 for this round. Will it actually make any difference to go lower?

I use Q30(4%undersize/0%oversize) as the thresholds for a second pass in D2SRoBa, but it really comes down to the speed vs quality thing, and your own personal tolerances. I'm making mostly DVD-R though so for SVCD it might be a little higher Q.

I think there's a bit of a consensus that you don't see much difference once you get below Q15, and I'm happy myself if its under Q25
