First of all... forgive my English... I'm Portuguese :D
I've finish an Installer for DVD Rebuilder.
It is supposed to install DVD Rebuilder and all the free tools that can work with it.

Thank you wmansir for your collaboration

When the (full) install is finished you shall have the follow list on your computer:

DVD Rebuilder 0.93beta PR - for now (jdobbs)
QuEnc 0.61beta (Nic)
ReJig v0.5e (Nic)
HC Encoder beta 0.14a (Hank315)
ECLPro v0.27 beta (Robot1)
RBOpt v0.17 beta (Robot1)
RB Loader v0.2 beta (Nic)
Decomb521.dll
DGDecode.dll v.1.1.0 (Now it is inserted into the DVD Rebuilder's folder.)
Help File 0.7
MPEG2Dec3dg.dll v.1.0.1.0 (automatically putted on your AviSynth's plugging folder - use it only if you get any problems with DGDecode.dll)
UnDot.dll v.0.0.1.1 and Deen.dll v.1.0 beta 1 - many beginners have contacted me for the location of these filters so I decided to include them on this package (automatically putted on your AviSynth's plugging folder).

It will create on your Window's Start menu a Group called "DVD Rebuilder" where you'll find important shortcuts that will help you to use DVD-RB.

It now includes a Routine that will allow you to choose your Commercial Encoder (CCE and/or ProCoder) and automatically configure DVD Rebuilder to use it/them.

Main Features

The installer will detect if you have AviSynth installed... if you don't the process will abort.

Will create a "work" and "output" folder on your "documents" folder or you can choose their location.

Rebuilder.ini (which configures Rebuilder to *one click mode using *QuEnc - "high quality mode" enabled - *"dynamically assign cell bit rates" and *"25% quality drop on extras" - work and output folder will be defined as the ones choose during Install procedure.

The "Commercial Encoder's" routine will allow you to configure the paths and definitions, of your favorite Encoder, on DVD Rebuilder. Just don't forget to point the correct path to your CCE folder and then choose the correct version during the procedure. If you plan to use ProCoder you'll just have to point the version you have installed... the path on EclPRO will be automatically defined and DVD Rebuilder will be set to use it - when this routine starts it will look for all the versions of the Commercial Encoders supported, you'll get an error message if none is detected - if you are certain that you have CCE installed and still get the message, then you are using an illegal copy, if you don't... contact me (anyway I made it possible to continue the installation just for the case that the "detection routine" has some bugs, so you'll be able to point the installation folder and select the version... DVD Rebuilder will also be configured with the data you submit).

QuEnc - "high quality mode" and "Use scene detection" enabled
actually i would probably set scene detection disabled by default. :)

also Nic just released QuEnc 0.55 Alpha, i would not include it until its had some testing though.

Thanks for putting together this cool package, m8!

It would also be cool if you could choose the "work" and "output" directories to be whatever you want, for those of us who do our encoding across multiple drives ;)

Keep up the great work!

Peace,

avcodecs scene change detection is a bit iffy at the moment, especially with the current rate control. it can give poor results and artifacts. so best not to use it as default. if people then wish to try it then be it on their own heads. :)

Good work Rockas...

Actually, if you do update it, please use the latest QuEnc 0.55 Alpha. I think it will be more stable and will help with bug finding.
(i.e. Instead of just coming up with a YV12 error when there's an avisynth problem, it will now catch the AviSynth exception and messagebox it)

Cheers,

Hey Rockas,

I came back to this topic because I was updating the DVD-RB guide on doom9's site for v0.66a and I was going to use your default install for the screen shots, but I don't think it has been updated for v0.66a yet.

Anyway, as I was unintalling this I noticed it removed DGDecode.dll and MPEG2Dec.dll from my AviSynth plugin folder. The problem is those files were there before I ran the installer, so it deleted files that may have been used by other programs. You might want to place the plugins in a folder under the DVD-RB program folder. As long as you give the path to DVD-RB it doesn't matter where they are, and by avoiding AviSynth's plugin folder you don't make any system wide changes.

Also, is it possible to put the DVD-RB version number on the first page of the installer?

@wmansir

You're right but... I've been sick on the last couple of days (and still am) I'll fix that as soon as I can...
... by the it is possible to not delete the files from Avisynth's pluggins folder when uninstalling... I'll make it that way..

keep it UP... 'cause I'm down :(

@ouiouioui

Hi there... I didn't make your installer public 'cause you didn't send me the source code... and you must understand that we can't trust all the people ;)

I,also, didn't make your previous installer public 'cause I simply didn't got the time to check all the script line you sent me and (even with my small experience with innosetup) I saw that some pretty nasty things can be done with it... so I'll have to check everything before I make it public... hope you don't get angry with me but I really don't trust myself (sometimes :)) and it you may notice that we "know" each other for a little time by now.

I just got sick so I wasn't able to finish the help files and I think I'll keep them on .html so everyone can translate them to their own languages on an easier way ;)

I'm proud to say (I'm feeking like Bill Gates here) that I've found a bug on my INSTALLER.
It wasn't configuring all CCE version correctly, now it is fixed - I hope.
I would like that if someone has access to all versions of CCE could tell me if it is working without flaws, now - I don't have all versions (Now I'm not feeling like Bill Gates - don't have his money :()

Rockas is your installer meant to put working and output directories under Dvd-RB, or in separate dirs? I just added a back slash and all is under the Dvd-RB directory. Just my personal preference. Thanks for a great program.

Thought I would add that the installer doesn't recognize my CCE basic. I get this error message: "noEncoder" in "cm" constant.

Are you using last version? It's supposed to let you choose and/or create any floders wherever you want.

I'll correct that problem (if there's any :)- please check if you got version 0.72(b))

I've just released a new version of my installer - v.0.72(C).

0.72(C) Changelog:

1. Help files updated

2. Last release of EclPRO (v.0.25)

3. Improved CCE's detection routine:
"This wizard will automatically search the path to you CCE’s copy. If you have more than one version installed on your system, it’s possible that the chosen default path doesn’t refer to the version you want to use.

The search will be made following this order:

1 s t CCE Basic - 2 nd CCE Basic Trial - 3 rd CCE SP Retail – 4 th CCE SP Trial - 5 th CCE SP 2.50

This means that if CCE Basic is detected, the path to it will be displayed as default on “CCE’s path definition” window. If it isn’t, wizard will search for CCE Basic Trial, if not detected, will search for CCE SP Retail and so on….

Keeping this in mind, don’t forget that if the wizard detects CCE basic but you want to use CCE SP Trial, you’ll have to define the path to it manually.

DON’T FORGET TO PICK THE CORRECT VERSION ON THE WINDOW CREATED FOR THAT PURPOSE "

4. Installer routine fully translated to Portuguese and Italian (thanks to RebuMan)

I think that's all...

bobrap
8th February 2005, 21:01
Using the latest version 72(c). My question about the directories is if you don't add the backslash manually, the default directories will be:
c:\DvdRBD2VAVS
c:\DvdRBVIDEO_TS
instead of:
c:\DvdRB\D2VAVS
c:\DvdRB\VIDEO_TS

Thanks

The file paths were meant to be created and used by DVD-RB. If they are edited manually or created by some other utility it still has to follow the rules. You have to ensure you do it in the same way the program does (which means the ending "\" has to be added).

Rockas
9th February 2005, 13:34
I've just released a new version of my installer - v.0.72(D).

0.72(D) Changelog:

This one as only a small change to correct the Work path and Output path insertion on Rebuilder - the missing "\" will appear now... I hope :)

Thanks to bobrap point that out.

Rockas,

First of all, great install program. Just one question though: When I looked at the list of CCE Basic options to install, I saw referemces to 2.66, 2.67 and 2.70, but not 2.69, which is the TRIAL version I have and seems to be the latest trial version (http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/download.html). CCE SP's current trial version is 2.70. Just want to make sure I'm setting everything up correctly before proceeding. Also, would I need eclCCE.exe with CCE Basic v2.69.1.10?

Sorry for the newb questions. I've been interested in trying Rebuilder for a long time, but tonight will be the first time I'm actually going to do it. I have some farly large discs (7.8GB)that have very little extra features and/or needless audio tracks to remove so I'm hoping Rebuilder lives up to its reputation for compressing large files with outstanding quality.

jdobbs
13th February 2005, 06:14
Just a warning. There are some limitations on the CCE Basic Trial that can make it unusable with DVD-RB. If you are going to use a Trial you would be much better off using one of the SP versions. It will give you a good feel for the quality so you can decide whether to obtain a copy of Basic.

jamesdmc
13th February 2005, 17:26
Thanks for the advice jdobbs. After I posted my message last night I downloaded the trial version of CCE SP 2.70 and everything worked fine. I've reviewed the final file on my big screen (106" diagonal for 16:9 content) and - for this movie anyway - I'm not seeing a night-and-day difference between the DVD-RB output and DVD Shrink's output. Shrink is a little softer, but that's about it. I'm going to try a few more DVDs, though. I've heard too many good things about Rebuilder to come to any kind of conlusion based on one test.

Thanks again.

...so you can decide whether to obtain a copy of Basic

Honestly, since quality is orders of magnitude more important to me than speed, and based on a TON of positive feedback from others on this forum as well as the CloneDVD forum and DVD Remake forum, I was already leaning towards purchasing Basic even before I downloaded the installer :).

jdobbs
13th February 2005, 18:29
I can tell you that I have had a lot of experience in backing up DVDs. In my opinion there is absolutely no method that produces higher quality than CCE. That experience is the single reason I developed DVD-RB. Happily there are other alternatives that will work also, like QuEnc for those who want a completely free solution.

Some movies come out fine using Shrink... but for the serious videophile it probably doesn't make the grade -- not that it isn't a great program (it's filled with outstanding features, and it is incredibly fast), but within-the-compressed-domain transcoding has inherent limitations for which there is no cure.

I have no connection with Custom Technologies -- and complain often about their lack of configuration control -- but their MPEG-2 encoding engine is head-and-shoulders above any other on the planet.

As for CCE Basic -- I bought it and haven't been disappointed.

Rockas

@jamesdmc
I'm sorry to be answering you with such a delay :) (I love the term delay... reminds me the times when I used to make DivX backups :D)... I've been away for the weekend.
Anyway... you got yourself a good company (jdobbs, could you get better? :))
Anyway... I didn't include Trial basic versions on the installer 'cause there's no reasons for that... if you're going to use a trial might as well use SP (like jdobbs said)... if you want to make a test to see what could be the quality of Basic version... use SP with 2 passes (Basic and SP Trial with 2 passes are quite the same) and the most important reason is that I don't think that EclCCE works with Basic Trial... at least not with 2.69.

If I run the Installer again (with a new version), will it just install over everything and leave my settings as-is? Or will it reset them?

Rockas

You can overwrite everything or just install what you want... It will be asked if you want to replace your Rebuilder.ini file.

But if you just want to update Rebuilder.exe you can download just the program and replace the "old" exe file with the new one.

hello
you are doing an amazing job,
there's just a question or a think that I have to point out, it's tiny and not of big importance but well..
when you click on the shortcut of RBLOADER that the installer has put on the "start/programs/dvd rebuilder/extra (add ons) it says that "hook.dll is not found;
when you go to the program files directory on the C, the actual directory where dvd rebuilder has been installed, you see that hook.dll is actually there and when you click on the rbloader there it works.
did I make myself clear?
thank you

Rockas
19th March 2005, 17:48
You're completely right... I never noticed that...:o
You can fix that easily.
Go to the properties of the shotcut (mouse's right click) and insert on the second field the path to Rebuilder's folder.
ex.
the first field has something like:
C:\Programas\DVD-RB\RBLoader.exe

on the second field (that is empty) you must insert:
C:\Programas\DVD-RB\

I'll try to fix that on future releases.

Thank you

edit: I Just found that bug... on the next release it won't happen :)

Sorry Rockas but Hank315 just published a little update for HC:

HCbatch beta 0.12a - release date 24-03-2005
- fixed an error where the scan flag wasn't set properly
for interlaced source using argument input
- added *WAIT command to speed up exit after encoding
- some other minor bugs fixed
- 1, 2 and 3 frame clips are now encoded using Constant Quant

Time for a 079b ?

Thanks Rockas ! Even if i am a vip of DVD-rb i use your istaller, then update dvdrebuilder.exe with my pro version !

I see HC is included, but I thought HC was not supported in the freeware version?
Because I use the VIP version, I have a newer DVD-RB. Can I just copy it over the freeware evrsion? And is also HC configured well?

Maybe you (Rockas) can add the option inside the installer if you have the freeware or the VIP version. If it is the VIP version, the settings are configured for VIP, but the user has to copy DVD-RB Pro executable to the program location by himself.

hello; I have noticed somethings in the installer again..
when I click on the matrixeditor shortcut, it says that 'the matrixeditor folder was not found, please select a path to it..
I kinda solved it by adding the path to the folder in the 'starts in' field in the properties menu.
afterwards another thing came up:

run-time error '713':
class not registered.
you need the following file to be installed on your machine. MSSTDFMT.DLL
what can be done..
keep it up.

Rockas
17th April 2005, 12:51
No... this time you shouldn't have do that :)

The message you got was refering to the Rebuilder's Matrix Folder.

Please remove the changes you made to the shortcut... Open the Editor from its folder ond on setup, point the path to the Rebuilder's Matrix Folder.

MarioGarcia
17th April 2005, 13:39

edit: problem solved;
I have downloaded matrixeditor again; I have reinstalled it, overwritting the precedent exe file, but I still didn't manage to make it work, then what I did it's just follow the error message and I downloaded the msstdfmt.dll from the internet. I put it on the matrixeditor directory, problem still was there, I tried to register it but it was useless.. so I moved the dll to the %windir%\system directory and registered it, it worked; it accepted to register, and then the matrixeditor run without trouble.. you can't reproduce the error because I am sure you have that "msstdfmt.dll" file in your machine installed..
I seemed not to have,
now why does this program asks for this file? where does it come from? what does it do?
i hope i could help improve..

All I can tell you is... I don't know :D
The Matrix Editor was made with Visual Basic 6.0... I guess that's one .dll that is needed...
I'll make some research to see what I can find about it. What OS are u using?

ok... that must be the reason... maybe Windows 2000 doesn't have all the VB libraries by default.

If it's alright I have a suggestion although it would probably require an entire rewrite.

I used your installer once. That's all I needed it for. I manually copy in all of the updated encoders (and RB-PRO) when new versions come out. But you have to come out with a new release of the installer every time one of the many supported programs is updated.

Why not have the installer so that it doesn't come with the programs but connects to a database where the current versions can be downloaded and placed accordingly? Your program then becomes an updater as well. It could then be ran weekly to look for current versions or you could even give people a choice of what version they want to use (as some people don't like to use day old versions.) As for RB-Pro maybe the user can just tell it where the e-mailed zip file is and update RB that way. (Or copy in the unique link that is e-mailed.)

I know this would be a lot (especially for a free program) but it could save you time in the long run and it would be something worthy of donation in my opinion.

@Matt Edd
Thanks for your reply.

Well the installer it self is a beta but it won't be that way forever :)

When DVD Rebuilder 1.0 cames out it will have it's own Installer with everything on it. I prefer keeping it that way because of all the people that don't have access to the Internet on (all) their computers.

At the same point there will be an Installer for the Freeware version that is independent.

And... maybe... I'll create a third one just for updates (due the size).

I'm talking about DVD Rebuilder and the minimum required for its function (AviSynth, Encoders, Etc)... I can not talk about any other applications/addons that were created for it.

Your database suggestion is good but I really don't know if its worth it... as far as I'm concern I can't be sure that all the addons created to Rebuilder will continue their development... there are (already) many of them that didn't.

Hope you understand what I'm saying here ;)

Okay, right up front I'm very leary of programmers and programmer-types, having run several IT shops over 20 years. They never test(TEST) their output on 'clean' machines.

Probably same problem here, as with most/all DOOM9 products I've tried over the last 3+ years. The auto-install DVD-Rebuilder vr. 083, simply doesn't work. Wierd error's that don't tell me anything, went back and forth through the install guide three times, exactly following every line. No difference. Program simply will not start. Several inconsistancies from documentation and what appears to be happening (i.e., docs say xxx directory, yet install program creates something completely different). I get no errors saying something hasn't installed, or is missing.

Windows 2000 (last known good microsoft OS); Again, a 'clean' machine, no old crud on it.

Should I try vr. 084 and hope it works? Wipe everything 'clean' of course.

Much of this I'm certain is where people 'assume' 'everyone' knows something, and it doesn't need to be in the 'documentation'. Just tried the forth time, same unknown errors that don't really give any clues.

You're right... I didn't test the installer on windows 2000... I don't have it, sorry :)
The price of the installer isn't high enough for me to have a dedicated clean machine to test it :D

Now lets get serious... you really need to post the full Information about the errors you are getting.
Are they in the installer? on other application? what says the messages?

All I can tell you is that thousands of people have used each released version and you are the second to complain about it!

Please be more specific.

Well, this is the fifth time I've tried replying, and the forum keeps dropping me off; but anyway, I tried wiping out 0.83a and installing 0.84a and nada. Even 'roll back' complains it can't find all the junk and changes to the registry 0.83a did, when I tried running 0.84a basically (if I'm reading the installer docs right) half the stuff didn't run, and I'm guessing that it didn't get installed. (more than guessing, I'm pretty sure simply because it took about 2 secs. to run through it).

Well, I guess I'm back to manually trying to extracate all the junk 0.83a spread out, and keep trying 0.84a installer pgm.

Tried it anyway, same non-specific errors. The dead givaway (to me) is that going by the DVD Rebuilder docs, the directories/subdirectories created during both the install and when it 'tries' to run, are simply 'not correct'. Now, it could be the docs are incorrect (...no!) but changing the directories doesn't help.

Well, I'm guessing that the install program has to work to begin with, and like I said, it seems to 'skip' a whole bunch of stuff that 'maybe' it's supposed to do.

The Installer soesn't spread Junk... as you said.

All the Programs it installs gets into the Path you choose for Rebuilder.

It just ads three registry entries (that I use for updates)
They're located:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DVD Rebuilder

I'll update the Installer today (it will be 0.84.1) just wait a little and then make sure you choose "Full Instalation" when it is given the oportunity to.

how about a installer for the RB-pro just like you have it for the free version. it would really be a great help for those of us who are no so experinced at setting it up.

just a suggestion. thanks.

p:s: what a great software, thanks man.

I merged your suggestion with the main thread, elizerrojas.

If someone is having a problem setting up the Pro version they can always use the freeware installer and then replace the Rebuilder.exe with the pro version from jdobbs.

That's completely right!

But soon... there will be a specific Installer for the PRO, It won't be much different, but it will contain the Professional versions... sooonnnn :D
