what codec do i need to get windows to play my mpg2 files?

An MPEG-2 codec of course. Doh.

Or at least a program that can decode it, like a dvd playback application.

no really? is it now?
I meant is there no ready to download divx-like codec that lets you play mpg2 in wmp9? or am I thinking to simple?:p

i did now.

now i've got sound but no video, well some progress was made.:cool:

You might want to consider downloading and installing the "trial" version of NeroVision Express...

It's direct-show decoder filter can decode Mpeg2 (in DVD/.vob, .mpg, .ts, etc) and does so, very well. It also continues to work when the trial period ends.

And unlike FFdshow (unless it's been fixed) the auto DAR signalling detection works....
