View Full Version : AGK now may come completely out of GK's shadow...

Hi.

With a change of the gk_tmp folder being programmed to come as agk_tmp, the process of an individual identity started. It may now continue with the following:

1. A change in the name without the two words Gordian and Knot. (?!)
2. A change in the icon to a more assured and firm graphic rather than the ill-defined nebulous blob. (???)
3. Its own fora: ~(name here) development and ~(name here).

I've used GK when nothing else comparable was in sight. It is a great program, it is. And still magnificent, no question about it. It will not be obsolete for a l-o-n-g time to come.

But, of course, the developer of AGK has better things to do with it rather that waste time with the cosmetic dressing up of AGK. So we are ready to wait...

Regards.

To be honest I didn't get this post :)

P.S. from what I see in these forum - AutoGK took over GK anyway...

What I mean are these:

1. AGK is no more a derivative or descendent of GK than Grasshopper is a derivative of grass. So why shouldn't it have a name all its own, like M4fast or some such thing?

2. Personally I think the icon could be improved (GK, incidentally, has the best icon in the field)

3. We discuss AGK in these two fora: Gordian Knot Development and Gordian Knot. Why not have its own fora, like M4fast Development and M4fast ?

(Look, I'm not suggesting M4fast as a new name for AGK; it just popped into my head whily typing this mail. I am using it just to illustrate my point.)

Shrek-2 is the third largest US Box-Office Hit in the IMDb list, and Shrek is 25th. I'd say, therefore, Shrek-2 has achieved this by cashing on the goodwill and brand image of the name Shrek. Shrek-2 is good, but it isn't good enough to surpass the original by such a margin.

AGK is different. It really is a terrific program. It does not need the brand image of the words 'Gordian Knot' any more.

But, of course, all said and done, what's in a name ?

Regards.

If we move AutoGK talks to its own forum then these ones would be kinda dead :) Better thing would be to rename the forums by adding (Auto) in the beginning.

P.S. btw, naming was discussed long time ago when AutoGK's name was GordianKnotItFast4U. And it was a feeling that GK should be present in the name. You might be right that there is not really much in common, but I don't think changing name would do any good. Also the progtam now is mostly called AutoGK these days, not Auto Gordian Knot. By making it shorter - reference to GK is kinda removed.

P.P.S whoever whants to produce a new icon - be my guest (I have never done any kinds of icons myself and not gonna :) )
