Hi
I have posted this several weeks ago in different fora, oddly nobody had a comment so far:
Making DivX or Xvids:
1. Using AutoGK; how to position burned-in subtitles vertically so that text appears in the black bar under the movie ?
2. Using AutoGK; How to set the color and font size in burned-in subtitles?
3. If this cannot be obtained in AutoGK, is it possible in Gordian knot or any other tool ? If so how?
4. If i want to make an external subtitle in *.sub or *.srt, to go along with a video rip via AutoGK with no subtitle, how can i make a subtitle which is positioned in the black bar under the movie ? (My Philips DVP630 standalone player can show external *.srt subs)
5. And further how can i change font size and color og such a subtitle?
6. Is AutoGK 1.6 build on Gordian Knot 0.28.8 ?
Thanks for any enlightment :-)
Best regards Jorn

Hi-
1. AutoGK cuts all the black away. If it's a widescreen movie, then the black bars are added by your player, and there's no way you're going to get the subs down there.
2. AutoGK uses the VobSubs as they're on the DVD; font, size, color, placement, etc. You're not going to be able to alter them without some tricky editing of the .idx file. You'll be better off using another program for encoding (GKnot/VDubMod), where you'll be able to perform that editing using VobSub Configure and editing of the .idx file.
3. Yes. You can't change the font, though. To do that, you'll have to OCR the subs into SSA or some other format. Using VobSub Configure it's easy to change the color and placement, and I can teach you how to make them larger. If your movie has black bars already in the DVD, then you can keep them for sub placement by not cropping them away, and then you can make sure the subs are in the black. If there is no black in the vobs, or not enough black, then you can add some to the movie, although that's a bit trickier.
4. You can't. Again, the black is added by the player. The only way to get external subs down in the black, is by keeping (or adding) black below the movie in the encoded AVI. I don't know how high the player places the subs, but you won't be able to adjust that.
5. Again, I don't have such a player, but I assume the size and color is set by the player (I've read that they're too small), and there's nothing you can do about it.
6. No.

Hi
Thanks a million for your answers, finally i can move on :-)
1. If AutoGKis not build on Gordianknot 0.28, what is the "core in AutoGK then build on ? I guess the onlu connection between GK and AutoGK is the tools they both use ?
2. I saw somewhere there are "tweak tools" for AutoGK, can anuy of them "interfere with the automated process, making it possible to adjust the subtitles via VobSub as you described ?
3. If so which can you recommend herefor ?
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated :-)

1. I don't know, don't understand, don't care. Maybe len0x knows the answer.
2. Maybe, never tried them. Here's a couple of threads that may (or may not) help:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79227
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82244
3. What you want to do is either to put your edited VobSub .idx file into the AutoGK .avs, or add the OCR'd subs (SSA or SRT, most likely) into the .avs that AutoGK uses. You may also want to adjust the .avs to AddBorders (http://www.avisynth.org/AddBorders) at the bottom so the subs will be in the black. The first link may show you how to do that. Maybe contact gircobain (in case he doesn't see this thread) to see if it's possible with his tool. Should be, though, since it allows editing the .avs to add filters.
What you're asking is somewhat complex stuff, especially if you want to use AutoGK for the job. I hope you're up to the task. And maybe len0x or others will have some more ideas to help. I do that kind of stuff all the time (not adding black to the movie, because I don't believe in it, but adding edited .idx files, or SSA files to the .avs), and for me it's much easier to do within GKnot, or with a GKnot generated .avs, and then encoding directly in VDubMod. Good luck.

I just might :)
Anyway, jj12, its not based on anything. It uses the same principle that you do in the GK manually and much more...
P.S. I personally very rarely do subs at all.

Hey guys,
I just encoded Kill Bill 1 and 2, it has forced subtitles but they are below the letter box. I'm guessing that since they decided to put the forced subs below the main movie zone, that AutoGK will cut them out?! I can't remeber what it looked like in the theater, but I'm sure there wasn't a black area below the movies for the subtitles.
So should I give up on trying to get the forced subs in these movies?

Hello and welcome to the forum-
Assuming they're selectable, and not burned into the black part already, they'll show up OK. Load them up and run the Preview to make sure before doing the encoding.
