I just did a backup of Van Helsing and when I run the backup in power dvd the menu is full of what look to be compression errors. Movement is blocky and such. I know the menus are not reencoded so it must be a problem with the rebuild. Before anyone asks I checked the ripped vobs and they do not contain this blockyness. I'm going to run the rebuild phase over to check the problem. Also, unless someone needs them I'm not going to post my setup as it should be irrelevant.
Edit: I should mention this is R1

Please, try again.

right-o, I'm in the process of another rebuild. It's just a little strange is all.

just checked it again and the menu still has problems. would running the prepare and encode phases again help or should I just manually copy the menus over. It's strange because the errors are EXACTLY the same.

I'd copy just the menu Vobs.

I made a backup of Van Helsing and playback was perfect on PC (WIN DVD) and on the stand alone. All the menus, extras were all just like they were supposed to be. Two that reported a problem in Nero were "Highwaymen" and "Cinderella Story". Nero gives reallocation error and warning that they might not playback properly but have played both on the computer and on two different DVD's ( Pioneer and Go-Video) with out a hitch. Don't know what Nero was complaining about!
By the way, I am using CCE Basic with all the standard settings except steal from extras is a 33%. No preprocessing of any kind, all RB !!

I hate to bring this up again, but I just ran Dawn of the Dead and the menus have the same problem. I fully expect that this is a problem with my system and not rebuilder, but does anyone have suggestions on how to keep this problem from manifesting itself again?

Edit: I should mention this is R1 As I've said before.... menus aren't processed. They aren't rebuilt. They are copied into the output directory, nothing more... it's hard to create blockiness in a source you don't touch.

I do realize, this is more a plea for help... It can't be rebuilder's fault, but if anyone has an idea of how I can fix this please let me know.
Thanks

defrag your drives, and make more free space
if you are getting errors in files that are simply copied those are the only options, unless you have a drive that is dying

Play back the VTS_XX_0.VOB files in the original and the copy and see if the menu you are discussing is actually in one of them. It is possible to have what could be treated like a menu within one of the VTSs using subpictures. I don't know if I've ever seen it outside of the audio/video THX tweaking on some DVDs, but it is technically possible.

Both Van Helsing and Dawn of the Dead both have menus in the *0.vob file so I'm assuming it's just poor upkeep of my drives, I'm going to do some work on them and try it again tonight. Honestly, I suspect that this is just a symptom of having too many rips on my hard drive and not defraging enough, but thanks for all the input!

sorry, I might have missed the point on the last one. After playing back the menu vobs in both the working folder and the orginial I can see that they are not the problem. The blocks are not in either. I have also tried recopying all the ifos with no luck either. Just for a laugh I even copied over the original video_ts.vob still no luck... Anyway, if no one else is having this problem I don't know what it is, it certainly seems less and less like a hard drive issue though.
