I have encoded a mp4 file which is streamable from Darwin Streaming server. When played as an ordinary file i got the full 25 frames per second, but playing the file through DSS it drops because the need for more cpu use, which is now 100% while playing locally around 33%.
edit 1:
ok this is madness, tried on another pc which is an 1.3gig and it plays at 25fps. while my dual amd 2000+ did between 17 and 22 fps, with most of the time below 20fps.
What influences quicktime performance? i am still talking about using rtsp.
edit 2:
Installed 3ivx and performance much better and playing files at 25fps.
Still without it, i get 25fps playing the same file over a normal network. Using rtsp i only get 20fps after i upgraded my video drivers if it has anything to do with it.
