I discovered a bug in QuEnc when option "scene detection" is on: many pixels appear with buffer underrun on my DVD player only in complicated scenes (not high motion) like rain, snow or water.
Bitrateviewer don't show any anormal peak level even if it is high (8500).
Do you know the problem ?

This problem is due to a few I frames in a row causing underflow. Go to my site (link in sig) and download NuEnc. So far it is experimental, but underflows are almost completely removed, among other things.

yes the normal rate control is not great for this. i set it to push up quality(and size of course) for I frames. with another person this actually cleared up crappy scenes with scene detection. definatly try Peters NuEnc because it will be another aspect thats good to know how its working.

I tested NuEnc0.00d but in 1pass the quality is still bad as I mentionned it in a reply.
For now, i'm using QuEnc0.54 without <scene detection>.I don't see a real advantage to use it.

Peters work has been on 2 pass not 1 so any difference you would see there is due to internal settings.

I see the difference in a video encoded at the same VBR avg in 1Pass.
Nuenc (KLB matrix) produce a smaller file than QuEnc witch works better in high bitrate (custom matrix). In high motion, NuEnc creates a peak level at 4400 and QuEnc go to 7500!

yes but as i said these are caused by the difference in internal settings (I factor etc)we send to avcodec and should not be the rate control work Peter has done.
