Just curious. Also, does anyone have any idea what it is and if I will have to claim it on customs?

Thanks.

I was excited I would at last play with atemes codec :(
Any hints bobololo about the release?

From what I understand from others that have tested the software (Nero Reloaded), that isnt doesnt come up with the H264 AVC capability, rather only the decoder and not the encoder. I hope I am wrong but I have yet to see any review that says the H264 encoder is included with Reloaded.

netchris
18th October 2004, 23:57
That is true.
There is a nero reloaded version floating around the web,it doesnt contain the .264 coodec but I read in another forum that it is actually a pre-release and the the final release will have bug-fixes and new features(the new codec?).
Anyway I can only hope and speculate that the codec will come with the official release of the new nero. (And I can also hope and speculate tha it wont be long before its released :D )

acidsex
19th October 2004, 03:51
Actually, I heard the new features is Vision Express 3 and something called Nero Media Home. From what I have gathered, Nero Media Home is supposed to give other systems on a home network access to nero media files. Also, something called Nero Photosnap or something. Still havent seen anything with regards to AVC H264 being included. Heres hoping it does make the final release.

From CDRlabs.com

"Sorry, the date has been pushed back to October 28th now due to some delays in developing certain features.

And the H.264 support for Nero Digital's MPEG-4 Encoding will more than likely not be available till End of November. We are working hard to finish development sooner, so its possible there will be an earlier release of H.264 support, but do not count on it till end of November."

:( Damn... This is taking longer than I expected :(

And the most amazing of all? Half Life 2 will be out before atemes h.264! Some days ago I would have thought this is a joke!!! :D

Hi,

Well I'm sorry for the delay with the process of your promised gift but as you may imagine we were all very busy lately. Anyway I think the wait is worth since I have very good news for you all :)

First every tester who replied to my previous mail providing their info will receive very soon a free copy of Nero Reloaded. Jim Corbett from Ahead Software will send you a download URL and your personal serial for the latest Ahead flagship bundle.

Moreover, we're very lucky and hopefuly by the end of this year, Santa Claus may drop in our chimney a few units of exclusive ND enabled standalones that we would like to share with the most meriting testers :) So if you demonstrated a significant involvement in this test then I suggest you to check closely your mail box by the end of the year !

He-he... ;)
I like beta testing :) :) :)
EDIT:
The problem is, that I'm very bad tester - any software works fine in my hands. :D
The only problem I've found with nero is that problem of strange detail loss in one region, while maintaining it in another. And anyway, Soulhunter reported it first :)

Good luck to you, guys !
P.S. And update aac LC codec, please :) :) :)

is that going to be the version with the H.264 AVC codec?

Would love a stand alone but three hurricanes prevented me from testing to the extent that I would have liked. Figures though, not bad enough that all three hurricanes claimed everything I owned but now it cost me a shot for a groovy standalone player. Damn Mother Nature!

I really cant complain though. We still have our health but Christmas is going to suck ass because of no gifts. But its ok.

Nero Reloaded = Nero 6.6 which is out now. Though untill they jump to a next major version until the end of the year, the AVC enabled version will be a free upgrade to anyone that is now getting a license for Nero Reloaded.

awesome.

WRT the standalones, will they support H.264 as well and does anyone have an idea of the cost and when they will be available in the US?

I thought I was read that the standlones would be able to record to Nero Digital files as well.

Anyways, definitely cool.

bond ehh this would be a little fatal i think mid next year or Microsoft has a big big headup and this would be bad in terms of market share in the HDTV sector. Microsoft now faster links itself into the Future of new Technologies and i don't have to say they even won the Browser War in the begining and that even by coming to late into this Market and now they are first on the HDTV Market with there properiarity Solution i hope i don't have to show you where this could end. At least they wan't a Major cake of the Market and with the Headup in Player and WMV-HD DVDs (allready available for potential HDTV customers) they could reach that Goal easily.

Everybody... Have a gander at this

Still no expert, but my impression was that this can only do SD in H.264. I saw that there is now a 1GHz version of the TI chip, so maybe this will change.

My thinking is that H.264 will pick up when real-time HD encoding becomes available in commercial equipment.

big head up? last i heard ISO (or whoever governing body) and the manufacturers were griping over the codec not being locked down, not to mention off the record acknowledging that VC-1/WM9 was an inferior codec to h.264. and i highly doubt today's WMV-HD DVDs are playable or will be playable on any standalone hardware short of a SFF computer...

@plonk420 the new Sigma Chip can allready play 720p and Io-Data allready said there will be a firmware update to support WMV DRM and WMA-Pro both wich are needed to play WMV-HD DVDs. And in 3 Days the WMV-HD DVDs will be released here in Germany.

See here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=459759

and i didn't say they can stop the DVDFORUM standard wich they are in by themselves but they can gain Money and Content Producers for WMV-HD DVDs also, in the end they only can be the Winner even if one looses for example WMV-HD DVDs they still have the HD-DVD Standard as Cover and Content Producers as Paramount that allready Encoding in VC-1 (WMV-HD DVDs) why should they change in HD-DVD to AVC then ?

also you talking about the SMTPE i think thatīs Broadcast and a completly different story that has nothing todo with WMV-HD DVDīs nor HD-DVD

if you wan't to hear my opinion i say Microsoft planed everything from the beginning

1. Developing in coop with other companies on H.264/AVC (in the background working on enhancments for VC-1 that never where intended to be published to the group for H.264)
2. after gaining stability for VC-1 leaving the H.264/AVC consortium
3. Marketing VC-1 as Windows Media Video 9 useing Windows to distribute it to the masses (Content Producers also)
4. Preparing WMV-HD
5. Presenting WMV-HD to the Content Producers (they jump arround DRM is tough enough)
6. Releaseing VC-1 (codec allready better tuned then the H.264 Reference) to the DVDFORUM for verifcation
7. Many Content Producer think quality is better then H.264/AVC
8. DVDFORUM approval
9. Content Producers start to market WMV-HD DVD's (see it as testing the codec and how to get the best results from it and acceptance in the masses)
10. Most Content Producers decide to use VC-1 instead of AVC for HD-DVD's

im almost sure that the most of Content Producers will use VC-1 once HD-DVD starts the one that will use AVC are more the Broadcasters.
And with having both Codecs in the HD-DVD standard this is no Problem.
In terms of getting such streams playable on a HD-DVD player without reencoding.

So you see Microsoft Wins once again.

Interoperability with such VC-1 HD-DVDs on other Operating Systems would be a total mess and only possible with properiarty binaries and what did you read some month ago Microsoft released that but not OSS (because of the DRM) so you will have to pay for HD-DVD Players on Linux for sure.
