Hi there,
Have been searching around but cant seem to find a match for this question.
When I do movie->Digital Nero .mp4, I get great video BUT my audio level
is reaaaaaaaly low, both when played on PC headphones and thru
SPDIF out to my surround. I played it back using Nero Show and other players, all same result
I select 5.1 always for audio. (when I play the DVD, or the Recoded DVD it comes out fine on 5.1 out of mt PC's SPDIF)
Hm, good thing would be to try stereo and see what comes out.
I'll try it next and post. -> Tried it and the audio level is a maybe 25% louder.
does any1 have the same issue?
Is there a setting that I get edit to increase the audio level?
when I do plain Nero recode DVD -> DVD it works fine, audio level is ok
Thanks a bunch

There is a audio gain problem when encoding aac in recode it really needs to normalise the signal like besweet does.
I am personaly waiting for them to release a version with H.264.

I have the same problem. Do we know if it is an issue they will address, or do we just have to live with it?

You can use FFDSHOW audio filter as a workaround:
Set Configuration -> Codecs -> Uncompressed -> All supported.
Check the Volume checkbox -> check Normalize -> play with volume settings.

Wow - at first I thought you guys were imagining this problem, but then I compared the AAC generated by Recode to the decoded WAV of the original AC3 and, sure enough, the Nero AAC is too quiet! I attached a screenshot to show the difference.
I'm not sure I want DRC or Normalization, though - I just want the encoded AAC to match the original AC3 volume, no more... no less. Maybe we need to post this issue over at hydrogenaudio.org so Nero developers will see it for sure?

But what IS the original AC3 volume level? My understanding is that the normalization is adjusted on playback, by design.
AC3Filter 1.01a could also provide a playback workaround. It has dynamic range and normalization control.
Of course you can use BeSweet or even NeroMIX with the AC3 plugin to adjust gain and norm when you encode to Nero AAC and mux later. The hassle defeats the purpose of a "point and shoot" encoding ap like Recode2, though.
I can't believe that the Nero developers aren't aware of this issue. Of course the more emails they get from registered users, the more likely they are to add a gain/norm feature to Recode2.

I guess what I'm saying is that I want the AAC to have the same volume that the decoded AC3 has when you do *not* apply the DRC and gain adjustments that AC3Filter does. I used foobar2000 to decode the AC3 straight out without any postprocessing - I'm sure that BeSweet can be used the same way. I want Nero to fix the volume issue with their AAC encoder, but without applying any other adjustments like DRC by default. Maybe if they fixed the encoder bug AND gave users checkbox options to enable DRC and some sort of auto-gain they could make everyone happy.
P.S. Dunno what happened to my screenshot attachment - sorry! :(
