View Full Version : How do I repair a "broken" mpg file ?

My problem is caused by an Mpg1 file that seems to have some corrupt frames. I want it to become mpg4 but VirtualDubMod prevents me from converting them by loading only parts of the files until it notices the first "broken" frame.
Tried several programs like "mediafixer" or "mpgrepair" they created nothing more than data waste.
Is there a good program that can fix this and produce a regular mpg file?

I would be satisfied if someone could mention an editing tool for mpg1 which would allow me to delete the bad frames manually.

try remuxing it with TMPGEnc
or
if your video plays fine in windows media player
frame seve it to VDM with avisynth (directshowsource)

And if remuxing with TMPGEnc doesn't help, try remuxing with bbMPEG.

Finally found some time to try the remuxing.
Works for most of my troublemakers, but I still have 2 files that I can't even demux, if tried only a few seconds are extracted, than programs quit without an error.
These files can be played back, but I need to change the video codec.
Any suggestions ?
StephanV: could you post the avisynth script you mentioned ?

thats an easy one :)
Directshowsource("c:\myfile.mpg")
some times you have to add a framerate parameter but i dont think this is necessary for mpg files. this you can open in virtualdub.
