I've had a Mad Dog 16X DVD-ROM (MD-ED16E) for a while, and I've used it with DVD Decrypter to rip DVDs to encode to XviD. Although it works fine, it only reads between approx. 3.7X - 4.3X. I got a Lite-On DVD±RW (LDW-811S) this weekend, and it usually reads at 7.6X - 8.5X, even though it listed as slower (12X read) than the Mad Dog 16X drive. I have checked around on the Internet, and I'm pretty sure there's no firmware update for the Mad Dog, and I do have the latest firmware for the Lite-On. Does anyone know why the "faster" drive is reading slower, or what I can do to fix it?
