OK here's the deal. I am trying to redo an DVD that someone capture from TV & threw together theirself, but the menu stinks. I am trying to use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create a menu more to my liking. I used DVD Shrink to rip the DVD to my Hard drive. I add the 1st vob file, no probs. I then try to add the 2nd or even 3rd-8th files, I keep getting this message: The existence of audio differs from the present track.
The existence of audio has to be standardized on the track. So I then try adding a new track, works fine, no error message, but no sound either, the area where the audio supposed to be says unspecified.

Anyone care to tell me why this does this & how i can fix this.

Put the Dvd back in the drive and add the file directly from the disk. Since it is homemade it is no copy protected. It will rip it from disck and add it in for you. Create your new menu and you are done.

This is what I did to fix the problem.

Used DVD Shrink to rip vob files to my HDD.
Then used DVD-Lab to demultiplex.
Then I used BeSweetGUI and used the AC3 to AC3 converstion.
Then loaded all original demuxed VTS_02_1_0.mpv with the newer VTS_02_1_0.ac3 i created with BeSweet, into TDA, no probs.

I run into this frequently, especially if you edit files in DVD shrink (by edit I mean to cut footage; not compression).

For Each item you want to load, use add a new track, then when it loads in, you can ensure that the audio stream is properly recognized and loaded with video. On my system, if I do any editing with Dvd Shrink, TDA does not recognize the audio stream, which is in a kind of envelope.

As you load each item, you can drag items to other tracks, where the specs match, ie. audio and video matching bitrates/headers.

For items that you can't combine under the same track, or where the audio is not recognized, you have to demux the streams, then load the individual streams back in. They will probably be spec matching streams, but if not, then just keep then under seperate track sections.

(on demuxing, I have run into a few out syncs)

My current DVD backup system goes in these steps:

DvdDecrypt: full iso

DVDShrink: reauthor: Choose items I want, backup to folder, no compression.
* For trailers and things I might want to save seperate, I back them up individually, with compression, but no edit.
* (Confirm my backup files with a DVD player, then delete the ISO)

TDA: Setup Tracks and Chapters, by loading DVD Video from folders, each into its own track.
* Extras and trailers will probably have to be added to seperate tracks, as they tend to be at different specs.
* I usually put 2 movies per disk, and allow them 8 chapters @
* Author to another folder (ignoring size and bitrate notices.
* (Confirm my backup files with a DVD player, then delete fee folders)

DVDShrink: Full author: > ISO
Usually I set the menus to compress as still pics, and play with the compression of the 2 movies to get a good balance for their type; I also set the final DVD size to about 10mb short of thier standard size, just ot be on the safe side.

With the compression I use their adaptive system too, which ends up taking about 2-3 hours, but the DVDs come out nice, with simple menus.

[Alternate: although you could compress the videos in first DVD Shrink step, this does not speed up TDA authoring, and might even slow it down:
:you might be doing some cutting in TDA, then why have had to compress those parts.
:after TDA, you still would want to go into DVD shrink, to make sure everything properly fits, and you can take advantage of shrinking the menus, leaving a little more room for your movies.
: You don't want to run more compressions then you have to, and at this point, besides the cuts , you have the full video intact, so you can get your best compression.]

Note:
I check movies with software DVD players by starting them, then putting on fast forward and minimizing. If there is a glitch in your movies, it will probably bind while going through. My past bad backups usually had their glithches in the original full files, sometimes from bad DVDs.
