Hello all, I have just released a brand new guide on how to add subtitles to a DVD. So here it is:

***3 Steps Guide***



This guide brings new things, like support for SRT and SUB subtitles or SSA, SON and SST.
And more easy on use by the beginers on DVD Authoring world.

Software used:


DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvdromania.org/component/option,com_weblinks/catid,74/Itemid,44/) - (for demuxing video, audio, subtitles and chapters form the DVD)
DVD-lab PRO (http://www.mediachance.com/download.htm) (Version 1.53 Recommended) - (for multiplexing video, audio and subtitles)
Ifo Update (http://www.dvdromania.org/component/option,com_weblinks/catid,73/Itemid,44/) - (for updating the original IFO fles, let them know about the new info in the VOB files)


Create 3 folders on a partition with more then 20 Gb of free space. NTFS partition is needed for DVD movies over 4 Gb.

STEP 1 - DVD Decrypter

a). Insert in the DVD-ROM the disc on which you want to add a subtitle. If you have an DVD Image on the HardDrive mount it first with Daemon Tools. Open DVD Decrypter, go to Tools menu and then press "Settings" and after that press "IFO Mode" tab and set the parameters like in the image below.

After you have set everything as in the image above, press OK and go to "Mode" menu and select "IFO I".In this moment the software will automatically choose the main film in order to demux it.

b). In the right side, press "Stream Processing " tab and check "Enable Stream Processing" and at the bottom of the window select "Demux" like in the image below.

Now select all the lines in the Stream Processing window, one by one, (ONLY THE ONES YOU WANT OR NEED) and select for each one the Demux option.

c). Select the files destination, in our case "Demuxed DVD" . Press the button

and the program will start its work. After it finishes, close DVD Decrypter.

STEP 2 - Multiplexing video, audio and subtitles with DVD-lab PRO.

a). Open DVD-lab PRO and on the window that appears select like in the image below, the option "Simple (Movie Only)". Don't forget to chose the NTSC or PAL option as is your original DVD movie and hit OK.

b). In the lower left part of the screen, in the big white section, right click and chose "Import..." and import one by one, your VIDEO file and AUDIO file(s).

c.) Right click one by one the each line in the big white section where you just imported the video and audio files, and chose "Insert to Project...".

The Video and Audio will be automaticaly inserted on the MOVIE 1 window (right upper part of the screen).

d). Right click on the Chapters section (right above the Video section) in the MOVIE 1 zone and go to Chapters->Import Chapters...
A windows will appear, just hit "Proceed" button and the chapters will be imported automaticaly to the movie. (Hit OK to all the windows that appear).

e). Double click the Sub 1 line and a new window will appear.
First you must chose the subtitle language...

Second you must click on the Import button and open the subtitle file (you have 5 formats to chose from: SUB, SRT, SSA, SON, SST).

Optional:

You can chose the font color (White or Yellow).
You can chose the font face. (I suggest using a Arial font face).
You can chose the font size. (I suggest using a 22 size font).
You can chose the font style. (I suggest using Thick Outline style).

If you have an NTSC disc I suggest to check the "From DF source" option for perfect syncronization. (You can do some test yourself and see if you have perfect syncronization).

You can view the changes in the Preview window !
After your are done hit the "Generate Subtitle Stream" button and wait for the process to finish...it will automaticaly return to the main window after it's done.

Now you can see your subtitle line added automaticaly.
If you want a subtitle to appear automaticaly on the movie when you start the movie, just select the "Set this Subtitle always ON by default" option.

f). Go to "Project" -> Compile DVD...

In the window that will appear chose the path to the Final DVD folder and hit Start.
Wait untill the whole process finishes. About 15-20 minutes on a AMD 2.0 Ghz machine with 512 DDR.

STEP 3 - Update the original IFO files.

a). Copy from the DVD-ROM in "Original DVD" folder all the files of the disc with DVD Decrypter in File Mode.

WARNING ! - Before moving the *.vob files over the original ones rename them (e g: let's suppose that on the original disc the movie is situated in the VTS_03_1.VOB, VTS_03_2.VOB, VTS_03_3.VOB etc... files . You will have to rename the VOB files from the "Final DVD" folder to their original names.)

b). Select the main movie *.VOB files from the "Final DVD" folder (ex " VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.V OB, VTS_01_3.VOB, VTS_01_4.VOB etc) that contain the movie, !ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE CORRECTLY RENAMED THEM!, and move them (Cut and Paste) in the "Original DVD" folder overwriting the old ones .

c). Open IfoUpdate and go to "Options" menu and select as in the image below.

d). Now you will have to insert the IFO files.
- On "Original IFO Path" choose the corresponding IFO file from "Original DVD" folder (eg:if the movie is situated in the VTS_03_1.VOB, VTS_03_2.VOB, VTS_03_3.VOB etc files, you will have to open VTS_03_0.IFO in IfoUpdate)
- On "Authored IFO Path" choose from "Final DVD" folder VTS_01_0.IFO file.
- On "Backup IFO Path" choose where to save a backup of the original file just in case you make a mistake. Press "Update IFO" and 2 windows will appear and click OK.

Now the new DVD with your prefered subtitle is ready for burning on a DVD±R/DVD±RW.

Great guide....wonderful...one question though....lets say that you were able to download a subrip format subtitles that were ment to be for a divx version of the movie ..if you make sure that your time stamps are the same would you be then able to use it with this guide .....so basically take subs that were ment to be for divx and add them to a dvd-r?

Hey matrix just saw your video....wonderful....what i realised was that you first imported the english subtitles in your project...however it looked like the text displayed by DVD lab was romanian...and then besically renamed it to english ..did DVD Lab Pro simply convert the subtitle stream from romanian to english ....or am i wrong :)

ahhh alright then ..so then basically the most important part is that if you have a srt file ...just make sure that the timestamps match with another original from the dvd ....w000hh thats lots of note pad work :) ...wish someone could come with a script for changing those in an instant :0 but still this guide is great ....its gonna come in very handy :)

Well, STW is able to do that:D
If U have the original srt with original time stamps and the translated file has as many lines as the original 1, U may "import" the translated 1 to match the same time stamps as the original:D
Otherwise U have 2 other possibilities (read STW manual: it's very good!!!)

I have used DVDLAB pro , added new subtitle , but DVDLAB pro did not create the Usual .99 gb vob , it creates like 9756223kb vobs , thats why i am having problems in palying back dvd.

Any help will be appreciated

I've already inserted subtitles in 4 movies with this method, and works perfect, except for this little thing:

If i'm working in a NTSC video after i demuxed it, and when i open DVD LabPro i choose NTSC, but when i "insert into project" the video, there isn´t any timecode at all, even when i import the chapters.

Has this happened to anyone???

With respect to synchronization of two subtitles, I have written a tool, SubtitleCreator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitlecreator), that creates subtitles *.sup files (and uses IfoEdit to multiplex it back again - see my subtitle guide). However, it can use an original subtitle *.sup for synchronization. You just need to select a couple of lines that correspond, and it will interpolate and extrapolate so the other lines are corrected as well. This tool is open source software, so you can just take the source code if you like, add a GUI, and use it to synchronize your new subtitle...

It looks like a great guide, although I haven't tested it yet, and I am especially interested in trying IfoUpdate! However, just a small remark: why don't you start with DVDshrink in step 1, instead of compressing the output in step 3? This will make the files that you need to process smaller, and therefore slower. Although theoretically it might mean that the new DVD with additional subtitles won't fit a DVD anymore, I have never encountered this problem in practice, as DVD subtitles are very small (a couple of Mb, which DVDshrink always seems to leave).

You are using version 1.0 of DVD-lab PRO, or a BETA version. Please go to my site http://dvdromania.org and you will find there lastest builds and links to updates.
You need DVD-lab PRO 1.0 Final with the 1.0 041215 UPDATE (from here -> http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/historypro.html )
DVD-lab PRO 1.0 dosen't make files under 0.99 Gb from the update version 1.0 041025.
"1.0 041025 - Changes VOB split point to 1GB based on 1024 instead 1000 base"

Paddington, I know what you mean, but I have always "shrink" my DVD's with DVD Shink before doing the guide :D

Mabey I should make a note before starting the guide, so people "shrink" the DVD before adding the subtitle. Anyway...I think DVD Decrypter dosen't demux protected DVD's :D (mabey I am wrong...i never got intersted in that...as I "shrink" my DVD's before adding subs)

Yes, like TheMatrixx wrote I can only recommend the very last updates, talking of DVD-Lab pro.
And the procedure is :
Copy the dvd with decrypter in file mode to HD.
Use PGCedit to remove whatever U don't need(or other proggies)
Use ur fav. recoder(DVDrebuilder and CCE here)
When the dvd is finished and fits 4.3Gb(or 8.5 but in this case usually no need of recoding) demux and remux with appropiate subs, use ifoupdate and voilá:D (IMHO the best way to recode a.t.m.).
Reasons to use PGCedit are many: to get rid of warnings, unwanted trailers and so on....

But today i've run into this ifoupdate problem
"original ifo is not large enough to hold the new pgc"

I ve done a search but havent realy found a solution to this.

U are trying to tell the ifo file there are more chapters than the ifo file knows of. In other words U must use chapter extractor to state how many chapters(in original) and use the stated amount to make chapters in the reincoded movie.

DVD-LAB Pro supports subs only in text mode(srt,ssa,txt for instance).
Read the file into Subtitle Workshop. If the file can be read and saved by the proggy it will be read by DVD-Lab Pro.

Subtitle Workshop also doesn't recognise this subs when demuxed from DVD Decrypter.

They can be read from Subrip but not correctly.
Could this DVD have been authored a way so no one can alter the subs at all.

It never does. As I stated before, SW needs text based subs. Decrypter doesn't do any OCR.

Ahh yes I see, so either which way I have to convert them myself like I did before with say Subrip then SW will see them.

As when I've tried to convert the subs, it just took all text and moved it to the bottom (but needed it to be THIS (http://www.benten2000.plus.com/subs/rod1.jpg))

That mean techncially you have to wathch the original to find out where the split text should be.

First guide that helped me to keep all original content of DVD after reauthoring.
But I have one small problem.
Here is my real situation. I have authored a DVD. Original VTS for movie is VTS_07_xxx.vob. I believe I can't paste main movie of VTS number 7 after original menu of VTS number 1.
So I want to paste ONLY menu to authored DVD and get rid of all extras.(VTS 02,03, 04 etc)
How should I do this. Please give me a hand on this:-)))

i have followed every step in your guide. however i've run into 2 problems:

1.- the size of the original dvd folder files...

VIDEO_TS.BUP 16

VTS_01_1.VOB 1048574

is different from the same size after copypaste the resulting files from dvdlab! there's a 1168 KB difference in the largest files!

2.- even worse...

as you can see, the original dvd has only 1 VTS and all data is included in that VTS: main movie, and two extra movies.
when i follow the guide and copypaste the resulting VTS files from dvdlabinto original dvd folder, the files:

VTS_01_4.VOB 1048574
VTS_01_5.VOB 361006

change now into:

VTS_01_4.VOB 708782
VTS_01_5.VOB 361006

that is, the menus are ok, and the movie is ok (it includes my new subtitle track! great!). however, one of the extra movies does not exist anymore and the other extra movie, only half of it is left.

maybe this process is ok IF only one VTS includes the full movie and the other extras are in another VTS?

so when copypasting, part of the dvd information is lost, as in my case:

VTS_01_4.VOB 1048574
to...
VTS_01_4.VOB 708782

that means 339792 KB have been lost, which makes up for half an extra movie and a full extra movie.

ifoupdate says:

new authored ifo has 1 PGC
original ifo has 4 PGCs

i think THAT is the problem...

i followed this, very well-explained and good, guide, but my subs won't show up...
When i playback the DVD on the computer using PowerDVD the subtitle part is greyed-out when i right-click, and when i playback on my standalone it recognizes the Dutch subs (the ones i added), because i can select them, but they won't show up....
what can this be?

Edit: I watched the movie some more and it appeared that the subs are there but they show up 7:47 mins late in my calculations...
how can i fix that?

Great guide you have developed, works perfectly, I can watch the newly created (and burnt) DVD on my computer with no problem.

However, when I try to play the disc on my DVD player, my player does not recognize it at all. It just won't read it.

I have tried several methods of building and burning the DVD after the 'Final DVD' folder was complete:
1. created an ISO with ISO Magic, then burnt the ISO with DVD Decrypter
2. created AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, just like the original structure of the DVD, then again created ISO and burnt with DVD Decrypter
3. Created and burnt DVD-Video type of disc with Nero.

In all the above situations, the burnt disc plays perfectly in my DVD-ROM and on another DVD stand-alone player. But it just won't play in my own DVD

My only guess is that my DVD stand-alone is a bit older (bought 2 years ago...) and maybe DVD-lab/IFO Edit creates a newer type of DVD structure which can't be read by older players??

Have you encountered anything like this? Any idea what may be wrong?

I have subs in SRT format that i synched up perfectly to the movie in SUbtitle workshop, but after adding them and compiling them as per this guide, they are extremely off (its in synch towards the beginning, but by the end of thee movie, the subs are like 8 seconds behind).

What could be causing this?

Also, i'm having the same problem as vocor, with the timecodes in DVDlab being absent. ukendt, what do you mean exactly when you say "run" the video in DVDlab?

I'd try to add subs to a DVD movie using the DVD Lab Pro Guide wich is full explaided step by step very clear.
Everything did go OK until I start to compile the DVD.
When the MUXING PROCCES started and abt the 45% of it
I got an error wich says:

MICROSFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY

Runtime error!

Program C:\Archivos de programa\DVD-LapPro\compile.aux

abnormal program termination

Is the movie PAL or NTSC? Have you tried to rip subs (english) from original VOBS (with SubRip) and then to compare them with one you got in SRT format? Perhaps you should try to check how the timecode is written in (real time or from DF source ).:sly:

Well, the movie is NTSC, and the subs are 29.97 fps (according to Subtitle WOrkshop). I'm thinking my problem is somehow related to the fact that the AVI file I synched the subs to is different than the VOB file (I thought they were the same because the length was 2:01:13 on both of them, but upon further inspection, the VOB actually continued playing for about 20 seconds beyond that [with the counter not changing]). I have no clue why the avi is different (I guess its actually playing back faster than the VOB?), and thats really bothering me right now. I explained my problem in a bit further detail here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94488).

Oh, and im not sure what the timecode is, but the SRT file is basically homemade, i changed so much in subworkshop. But its synched to that avi file instead of the VOB, so thats my problem I guess. Now I just need to figure out how to use that 2 synch point thing in sub workshop to fix the timings (cause i guess the should work, cause the avi is just a bit compressed? i have no clue whats going on, cause the avi was made from an m2v file dvd decrypter spat out, so it should have been the same...)

You should download the sub you need (on your mother language), and then try to insert it again with LabPro without any editing. Anyway, what's the name of the movie? Do you still have original Video ts file from wich you could rip subs ( with SubRip ) and then to compare it in SW with one you get from net? So far this has always worked flawlesly for me.
The only good program ( that I run into) with powerfull preview option with whom you can check how good your subs are synchronized (NTSC movies) is sony dvd Architect 2.0

The DVD is Battle Royale Special Version (Starmax Korean DVD), and the whole reason I'm doing this is because the english translation is complete shit. Anyway, yesterday, I ripped the Korean subtitles from the vob file, because the timing is perfect, just, you know, korean. So I ripped them, compiled the dvd with this tutorial, and theyre off, the same progressivly worse problem Ive had every other time. i just dont get it.

Something else I noticed: I loaded up a single VOB file in subtitle workshop, and I let it play. Playing from the beginning, the earlier subs more or less lined up, so, for example, lets say that subtitle line 6 shows up at 3m 11sec right when the title pops up. When I let the movie play, thats lined up. THen I double click on the sub line (it should put the preview movie at that time), and though the timer says 3m 11sec, its actually about 8 seconds earlier. Whats that about?

Okay, that site has only got 1 set of subs for my movie, and its split in half apparently for some vcd bootleg. I'm pretty sure my problem isnt the subs themselves, as even when i rip the fully synched subtitles from the dvd itself and compile it, they are out of synch. I think the problem lies elsewhere, but I really have no clue where.

Alright, I'm feeling good right now as I very well may have figured my problem out. Correction: I might have found a solution, but I'm still not completely clear on what my problem is.

Last night I complied a DVD with 6 subtitle streams:

1. Korean ripped from the dvd in BMP format, selected Real-Time (29.97fps) in DVDlab
2. Korean ripped from the dvd in BMP format, selected Drop-Frame (30fps) in DVDlab

3. English edited subs with timings read from above Korean at 29.97fps, selected Real-Time (29.97fps) in DVDlab
4. English edited subs with timings read from above Korean at 29.97fps, selected Drop-frame (30fps) in DVDlab

5. English edited subs with timings read from above Korean converted to 30fps in SubWorkshop, selected Real-Time (29.97fps) in DVDlab
6. English edited subs with timings read from above Korean converted to 30fps in SubWorkshop, selected Drop-frame (30fps) in DVDlab

This morning I played the compiled DVD and checked through the subs and #4 is synched correctly (im pretty sure, im not at home now, so I'll edit later If thats incorrect). Actually, while the timings are correct, the dialogue is a bit messed up (my edited english subs must be arranged differently), but thats nothing a bit of text editing can't fix.

Are you sure you enter all the 3 paths on Ifo Update.... and the last one...push browse and chose where to save the back-up IFO.

Don't worry. I already fixed this problem. My computer's language was set to chinese and I changed it back to english and solve the problem (I made a little search and found out that non-unicode programs would crash if the language option was chinese/japanese...).

Just edit the subtitle

And you will be able to see it
(you can do it after you import the subtitle and the lines are showed to be or not edited)

Just doing the first steps of the guide and all seems to go well. Only problem is the original subtitles.

How do i put original subtitles back without the need to first converting them to text based subs and then back? This is an issue since ive have experience with subtitles and editing/OCR with SW as well as using subrip to convert. They usually if not always have OCR issues and if i do these conversions for multiple subtitles, i can bet that theres bound to be errors...

So is it possible to retain the original sub files that dvddecrypter demuxed or is it just not possible in anyway?

Sorry if im asking little "noob-ish" questions but this is my second day with dvd authoring. So far ive had good experiences, mainly PgcEdit, which btw rocks. Only having small problems tracking down each program and what they can do.

yep, i usually create (the new) subtitles with subtitlecreator and add them with muxman (original assets=video,audio,subtitles are 1st demuxed with pgcdemux). free version of muxman supports only up to 8 subtitles and can create only a single VTS (i might be wrong, but that's my understanding). if your DVD has more VTSes, you need to replace them one by one (if you added subtitles to multiple VTSes). another option is to rebuild the DVD again with pgcedit (this is, what i do since i normally strip all the VTSes that contain studio logos and other crap).

Do you mean that all this can be done within Pgcedit? I mean adding subtitles etc.? Ive used Pgcedit to do the same things as you said, stripped useless stuff.

sorry for my mumbling. i did mean that instead of replacing stuff one by one, you can rebuild the DVD from scratch with pgcedit, but also in this case you need all the VTSes done by some other tool (e.g. muxman) and menus (either orginal or remade).

Well, this is just about the thread I was looking for.

Im trying to add english subtitles to a Thai-DVD, which doesnt have subtitles on it at all.

The main problem is, that the original DVD has 2 pgcs for the main movie part. PGC1 uses VobID1-slvu (only .10 length), PGC2 uses VobIds 2+3-slvu. Of course this gives me problems using Ifo Update, since the reauthored vobs with the subtitles only have one pgc.

Are there any suggestions on this or is manually re-authoring the whole dvd the only way to go here ?

I'm having some trouble with a 'open GOPs detected in this file' error on DVD-Lab Pro when I try to import the files demuxed by DVD Decrypter.

It says that 'DVD may play fine but there might be some error with chapter points accuracy'. It turns out that the final DVD comes with no chapters at all. I mean, they are still displayed on the final DVD menu (Choose Chapter), like the original, but you can't select them.

I've searched Google and this Forum for a way to close this GOBs in Decrypter but I couldn't find any. I guess DVD Decrypter do not allow this setting.

Can someone help me out?

The DVD I am about to work on is NTSC and the sub I got is 25fps in srt format. Besides, I need to split the disc into 2 4.7G DVD-R. Also, I only want to replace one of the sub, no need to add one. Can I have some hints on how to change the steps in the guide to adopt these factors? (e.g. how to change the time code in the srt for both the frame rate difference as well as the splitting?)

From the guide + dejanc99's reply, I interpret as after the demux, I can choose whatever subtitle I like and put it into the timeline. I can also use Step 2e to assign the subtitle code (en, fr, zh etc) regardless of the original code.

Also, the srt frame rate is not a concern (I was told that it is 25fps although I don't understand why a text-based srt is frame rate specific). Since my target is a NTSC disc, so in Step 2e - "Timcode is written in", I should choose "From DF source" instead of "Real Time (25 fps)".

Am I right this time? I am not sure about the second point.

I wouldn't worry about this to much. This error message pops up for me every time I author a DVD with DVD-Lab and I have never ever had any problems playing them back on all the SAPs that I have. :D

To get familar with the guide, I tried it out using the sub ripped from the original DVD using subrip. In DVDLab Pro, I put back the srt to the timeline. But my DVDLab only allow me to put 1 sub into the timeline. When sub1 filled, dragging next srt to sub2 has no effect. Is it because my DVDLab is a trial version?

Hi, i encounted two funny problems:

1. DVDLap Pro 1.53's output of VOB files are slightly smaller than the original VOBS.

Original DVD VOB sizes:
VTS_02_1.VOB to VTS_02_5.VOB : 1,073,479,680 bytes
VTS_02_6.VOB : 691,218,432 bytes

Final DVD VOB sizes:
VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_5.VOB :1,072,783,360 bytes
VTS_01_6.VOB : 696,207,360 bytes

At the IFOUpdate step, i get this error: "ERROR: File: VTS_02_1.srm is not correctly sized on sector boundary. ABORTING."


2. Subtitle changes color. After generated by DVDLab Pro 1.53, the subtitles in the Final DVD folder are "white and black outline". After moving the VOBs into the Original DVD folder, the color becomes "yellow and green outline".

DVD: Final Fantasy Advent Children Region 2.

EDIT: OK found the problem, the color problem only happened before doing the IFOUpdate step.

I did this with the ffvii ac dvd I downloaded which had chinese subs. Basically I went to Vstrip to strip the subs out of the ifo, then I went to VobStrip to choose the corrosponding language idx and sub. Then I used SUBRIP 1.40, and open the idx file that I needed, in this case Japanese, I choose to convert to BMP and then save the text file as Scenarist(.sst). Then I add the .sst in DVDLab Pro 1.53. You should now have both english subs and japanese subs.

at the end, i f... up my work, and i finished with the bad sound stream...

Small "trick" i use to make sure my subs are in sync... and such.

Ive done lot of syncing by demuxing the audio file, converting it to wav with BeSweet and loading it in Subtitle Workshop and the subtitle i wanted to sync it to. Ive done it many times and it has worked everytime. Only thing you probably need to make sure is to compensate any "delay" there is for the audio but ive not seen any dvd yet that has delay anything except 0ms.

...and i use Subtitle Creator with proper "stretch compensation" to make it "DVD subtitle format".

I try to use the dvdshrink to copy the original dvd to the pc, and I saw that the final part of the movie is in the extras folder, thats the reason that the compile the project (final dvd) have just 2 vts vobs, and I don't know how to rip that final part with dvddecripter.

Can you help me or Someone has done some of these movies.

Simonsky, you forgot to check in DVDDecrypter this:
Stream Processing > Enable Stream Processing, click on the "video" > demux,
click in the "audio" > demux.

For the people who want to sync the subtitles, if they don't have any subtitles to get the time, you can set in "Settings > IFO Mode > File Splitting > None".
Than in Stream Processing > Enable Stream Processing > check the "video" and the "audio" and "Direct Stream Copy". The resulted video can be loaded in Subtitle Workshop.

For the people who want italics or other settings for subtitles in DVDLab Pro, you can see in the screenshot:

I have a problem with step 3: copying of the original files to HD and the authored files overwriting the original ones.
DVD Lab Pro doesn't create a VTS_02_0.VOB which is present on the original DVD.
Is this why I don't get an updated DVD ifo that contains the new subtitles?
It's back to the original content when I do the update.

EDIT: It seems like it worked the second time I tried.
But not the third. I still get the original subs when updating the ifo files.

I wonder what I do wrong.

And I don't have the menus. Since the update is only to the main movie VTS, shouldn't the original files be the same? So the menus should be found without problems?
What is the problem?

It's not that I care that much about menus but I can't make the ifo update correctly whenever I want and if I leave it after finishing DVD Lab Pro I have a prefectly good DVD with new subs but without a menu and extras.

Why can't the update make sure the menues work on the new DVD?

Be careful at the replacing of original vobs. If your movie start with VTS_02_1.VOB and DVDLab output is VTS_01_1.VOB, rename the DVDLab resulted vobs as the originals.

The renaming is not a problem.
Actually, I wasn't able to get the menues to work playing the ts file from my HD but they work in my stand alone player.

However, if the first try at changing the ifo doesn't work I have to replace the (ifo bup menu_vobs) files with fresh ones from the original DVD.
It seems like the update makes those DVD files (ifo bup menu vobs) unusable after failing to update them correctly. You can't update them correctly without fresh files.

Strange that the updates doesn't work all the time.

Another thing I noticed with one of my ripped DVDs was that it came out as letterbox instead of anamorphic as the original DVD is.
Why is that? The file generated by DVD Decrypter and passed through DVDLab Pro tells the program that it's letterbox. I can't make subtitles for 16:9 DVDs.
Any ideas about that?

This method is almost obsolete now. PCdemux, muxman and Vobblanker will do the job and they are all free tools. Furthermore they are quick and convenient.

And I totally agree with ukendt - nowadays the best way of doing it is this:

1. Demux video, audio and subtitles and save celltimes.txt with PgcDemux
2. Create a SUP file with your new subtitles, using SubtitleCreator (better looking subs than in DVDLab Pro)
3. Mux (author) with MuxMan
4. Use VobBlanker to copy the newly muxed main movie PGC back into the old DVD structure.

Length of movie is 2 hours and 18 mins, but m2v length showing 3 hours and 20 mins while audio is 2 hours and 18 mins like movie length

Now i'm dealing with the polar express wich has multi angle , and those vts are marked as skipped... and replace button is greyed out.
