I have several video files that I have already converted to mpeg2 format using DVD2SVCD. (these are TV show episodes captured from Satellite).

I just want to know a quick and dirty way of authoring 6 files to one DVD. Dont need menu's or anything fancy, just each file is one chapter. When i used to make SVCD's it was easy enough to drag and drop the Mpegs into the compilation window, and the application just did the job.

All of the guides I am trying to follow, only explain how to encode a single movie/file direct to DVD images, so I dont understand where in the guide I need to start from. maybe the solution is simpler than I think.

Perhaps I dont need a guide - but rather a suggestion to which application will suit my need.

if you have the dvd-files folders of all 6 files you can use dvdshrink Re-author option to join the files and stay with the chapters....each file will be one chapter.
or open each ISO in hd.just the same result as dvd-files folder.

Jorel, with all due respect, you did not answer the question. If he has the files in SVCD/VCD format, then he will not have them in DVD folders. .

In addition, DVD shrink will not load vobs (let alone mpegs), that don't have correctly matching ifo files with them, at least I haven't been able to make it do so

Its been a while since i tackled this issue, but I am now using TMPGenc DVD Author to do this job.

Also Nero Vision Express 3 I have tried it but its a pain. for a start it wants to transcode/encode the MPG files when thats not necessary at all.

I am using a similar system of using DVD Author (TDA) to make my DVD compilations.

I initially use DVD shrink to choose the clips I want, in re-author mode, removing soundtracks and subtititles I don't want, because it is very easy to see what you are doing.

Once I have the video pulled (sometimes with compression), then I load the files into TDA, edit out what I don't want, and set chapters.

In most cases I can fit 2 movies per DVD, each in it own track. I have TDA write to the hardrive the full end result, which usually goes over the 4.6gb limit.

Then I reopen the authored file system in Shrink, and let it compress the files to the right size (using the adaptive - sharp, compression setting). This usually takes about 2 hours. I write to an iso file, so I can open it with daemon as a virtual cd, and then use a player like Power DVD to confirm the end result. It it is good, then I burn it.

Note:
* Many times, if you edit files in DVD shrink (which is very easy), TDA is unable to read the sound track of the video. But Shrink's Compression does not seem to have any effect on TDA.

* I usually don't do much pre-compression in shrink, before TDA, as I don't want to waste time compressing things, that I will later edit out.

* TDA is about the simplest and fastest program for editing and setting chapters for your videos.

* If I have a lot of files to lead to TDA, like a seires, I rename the vob files to .mpg. (1.mpg, 2mpg, etc), then delete all the ifo and support files.. TDA can then simply find the files with 'Add file', and you then you edit and set your own chapters.

* In TDA, when it won't permit you to load 2 files to a track, because the audio or aspect is different, just open a new track, and load there.

Brilliant idea! I never thought of that.

I have been converting AVI's to DVD and sometimes i get the bitrate calc wrong (doesnt seem to be an exact science), and go over the 4.7gB limit. Usiing Shrink or any other program will save me a lot of time. Thanks
