Is there any real compelling reason not to use 48 kHz audio on a VCD or SVCD? We all know the official specs call for 44.1, but apparently many people just encode it at 48, or rather leave it at 48 if it's straight off a DVD, for instance.
So I've started doing this as well. It only seems to make sense that since a DVD player can play 48 kHz audio from a DVD, the same player ought to be able to play similar audio from a (S)VCD. In fact, I have yet to run across a player that won't. The quality is (I'm told) better, and the audio file's size comes out the same whether it's at 44.1 or 48 kHz.
Can't see any reason not to just do this all the time. Maybe it's those oriental "video disc players" I've heard about that only play video discs which will only play 44.1 kHz audio.
Thoughts?
