I have some video from my Panasonic DVR that is in broadcast resolution (704x576). I'm trying to take four 1/2 hour episodes and author a single DVD use TMPG DVD Author. As I go through the process everything looks right. However the end product has a thin black bar down the left hand side of the picture. I'm guessing this is the missing 16 lines of resolution between DVD & broadcast resolution.

My question is how do I author the DVD at the same resolution as my source files so that I don't end up with this black bar? I'd rather not have to reencode up to 720x576.

I also have DVD Lab, but I can't find a way to do it there either.

Thanks in advance.

704x576 is PAL-standard, so you can use it without resizeing and reencoding.

If you have a thin black bar at bottom -->don't care you won't see it on TV (overscan).

Unfortunately the black bar is on the right hand side and it is visible on both Powerdvd (on my computer) and on my stand alone unit.

The frustrating thing is that I recorded this on my Panasonic DVR and it plays fine there. All I want to do is make a permanent copy of it with a bit of a menu. And yet without doing any reencoding I'm ending up with something that won't plany on the very same Panasonic DVR.

Anyone else with a suggestion?

how wide is the black bar? Could it be that DVDLab flaged the streams as 720x576? You could take a look at it with IFOEdit.

The bar looks like it might be 16 pixels which would be the 720 - 704. When I look at the sources files in the asset bin it correctly lists then as 704x576. I also set the project property to be 704x576.

I'll check the header on the resulting files tonight.

Thanks,
