well i just got me a dvd burner, so the idea of converting dvds to mpg 1 for vcd are gone :)

some tips please on the best method to copy dvd's, mostly tv episode disks, eg babylon5, stargate ect.

i have read a few things on here but not knowing the software people mention im in the dark there.

however, i from what i read i think i need dvd squeeze, but do i go from dvd to dvd direct, or is it best to dump it all onto harddrive first? (i have a dvd drive and a cd rom that reads dvds)

i was thinking along the lines of only backing up the main part of the disk, (episodes and menu)
i know the *.vob hold the episodes, but what file is the menu?
thanks for any help guys

avoid dvd squeeze.

instead go to the "DVD and miniDVD" section of this forum.

for dvd9 to dvd5 you can go with a transcoder(dvdshrink(free), instantcopy(comercial)) which is fast and can give good quality when not reducing too much, or full encoding(DVD-RB etc) which can give much better results for heavy compression but will take much longer and can use different encoders (QuEnc(free),CCE(comercial)).

so check out the section i mentioned but have a good read before asking anything there.
