View Full Version : Is there a utility that can tell me which DivX/Xvid codec was used?

I am noticing problems with my hardware player and certain XviD versions.
I wonder if there is a way to detect which version of a codec was used to encode a file.
I am now starting to record both software and codec versions into the filename, but that doesn't help with with all my stuff.
Also decent utility to automatically detect and correct errors would also be nice. If one exists.

DivFix or simple DirectStreamCopy in Virtualdubmod - those are my favourite methods of correcting errors in avis...

the new gspot is able to detect what settings you used for your encodes, like gmc, qpel, b-frames and stuff, that comes in handy for hardware issues :)

I am already using GSPOT :)
I know QPEL's won't play.
I noticed that more information is displayed in GPSOT than appears in the standard export files. Sometimes this includes some extra information like the encoding program and codec version.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the codec version which is causing hte problem. I still have about 1 or 2 in 20 files which won't play and there is nothing different about them that GSPOT or a VirualDub error scan can detect.
Evertying I enocode using AutoGK 1.60 (using DivX and ESS option) works great so I guess I will just have to rebackup any offending files as they are disovered.
