Is there a tutorial for newbies to get started authoring DVD's? I'm interested in taking avi, mpg, mov, etc files and making a DVD that will play on a standalone player.

The forum is full of the little probs u might encounter during the transformation of your source to a playable dvd.

Unfortunately u won't find them gethered all to one place. U must recognise the problem and search for the solution, or if u failed to find one, ask a question in one of the fora.

My suggestion is to read the basics (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm), set a goal, ie create a dvd out of an avi, follow the relevant guide that u can find in the guides (http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm) and accumulate knowledge that can be used later on. As i said earlier, when u meet a problem u can search here or post.

I, for example, took one dvd of my collection out and tried to transform it to vcd, back then at 2000. Searched alot, read alot, - back then, doom9 fora were still in doom's mind, failed alot and miserably, but at the end I gathered the knowledge and I am not making the same mistake twice anymore.

In the guides section u can find a list of all the guides the site is hosting. One of them is the avi2dvd (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm) guide that will help u if u want to make a usable mpeg2 video stream from an avi.

Anyway I wish u the best and I can assure u that we all will be here for you.
