how do the pro's do it?

i was wondering how the dvd author companies author their dvds..

in what format and on what medium do they get their video and audio material.. i've heard somewhere they get some stuff on dat tapes whatever those may be (:

oh i do know they get most their stuff already in digital format from the production companies.. getting a filmroll and mastering it themselves is pretty rare from what i understand..

they get their video in digital beta format and the audio in DAB88 (?) format. The term for the audio may be wrong. It certainly shouldn't be the pc's one.
