Hi All:

I'm new to the forum and working with DVDs and I've run into a couple problems. Here's what I'm working with:

-Sony DVD RW DRU 700A Set to region 1
-Pioneer DVD-ROM Set to region 2

-DVD Decrypter
-NERO Suite which came with the Sony DVD RW
-Chopper XP

Problem 1: PAL to NTSC

I have a lot of PAL DVDs from the U.K. of things that will probably never be released in the U.S. I wanted to make NTSC back-ups so I could watch them on something other than my computer.

I can use Decrypter to extract a PAL VOB and when I add it to a new DVD with other NTSC VOBs it gets converted to NTSC and the conversion is perfect.

When I tried using Decrypter to extract the entire contents of a PAL DVD to my hard drive and then burn the contents in its entirety using the Nero Burning ROM application the resulting DVD lost all color and the image was no longer centered on the screen. I tried out this application previously with a non-PAL DVD and it worked fine. Is there something I'm not doing right in the extraction process or are the files not being converted properly during the burning process?

Problem 2: Audio drop-out/clipping

I have a couple music DVDs where I've tried to extract certain tracks and the result has distorted audio which manefests as clipping/drop-out especially in the bass response. Adjusting playback equalization doesn't help as it appears the data is somehow just missing (dropped). I've even tried copying the entire DVD contents thinking there was something in the original IFO files that would prevent it and it didn't help. Is this something deliberate to discourage copying or am I doing something wrong? I've only noticed this on 2 or 3 discs out of the 30 or 40 I've been playing with so far.

If anyone can offer any insight into these issues, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Jim

Obviously u must convert each and every vob to NTSC in order for the copy to work OK.

Why don't u start a NTSC dvd project and then drop each PAL video in so that it will be converted. U say the conversion is perfect. U can proceed to dvd authoring afterwards.

Where does the 2nd problem appears? It isn't quite clear to me.
