View Full Version : PowerDVD vs Windows Media Player

Hi,

I have 2 questions:

1) Why does PowerDVD play DivX/XviD avi files in a bigger window and with better (I think, or so it seems to me) quality than Windows Media Player?

2) I use external subtitles. Is there a way to view them using Power DVD?

Thanks in advance,

John

well I am guessing here but it might be a valid one.

PowerDVD utilizes special proprietary algorithms that enhance the details in the picture.

I know that u can use vobsub to enable external subs for display in media player as well as in subtitle workshop. This might also work in case of powerdvd. Just give it a try.

Ummm... How?

I know that for Windows Media Player, it's enough to put the subtitles files in the same directory with the avi file, and with the same name as the avi file. What do I have to do to make Vobsub to start with PowerDVD?

Why not give Nero's ShowTime Player a try?

It's included with Nero VisionExpress and comes with many of the filters you will need...

Nothing at all. It autostarts as long as there is an avi with corresponding subs in the same folder.

Well, in that case, no, Vobsub doesn't work with PowerDVD. All of my avis have external subtitles. In fact, Direct Vobsub indeed starts but exits immediately! Does anyone know why?
