I have a MicroAdvantage DVD burner, using Sony Media (+R), DVD decrypter and DVD shrink, plenty of CPU/MEM power and Roxio EZCD 6. My problems are (ready):
(When I decrypt dvd's I own (that’s all I do) all is ok, HOWEVER)
1: When I try to write to my Sony media I get a write speed (max) of...oh .8 (Yes I picked faster than that, 1, 2 & 4)....if that's not bad enough
2: Roxio will get to either 19 (1 time) or 21 (4) times) then just stop. ... ... No error, nothing, the lights (and I know the pattern by now) just stop coming on and flashing. The progress graph stops. I even let it set overnight....no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am about to go postal on Japan and the POS crap I have had the misfortune to get. (But that's another story.)

Thanks,

1. This might be due to an old firmware in the drive that isn't capable of understanding and setting the right writing strategy for the Sony disk, thus reseting the speed to 1x. U can visit MicroAdvantage (http://www.microadvantage.net/support/) support site and download a firmware update that I saw there a couple of minutes ago.

or, u may have the famous M$ error about the ide channels reverting slowly to PIO mode. Goto Hardware Manager and check the Properties of IDE channel 1 and 2 and report back what DMA settings they do have.

When u decrypt your dvds, what format r u saving to?
R u using decrypter to burn with?
If yes, what errors, if any, r produced by decrypter when the burning stops.
We also need the decrypters log. U can copy/paste it in the next post.

2. If u have a roxio log, it would be good to have it too, also.

I got the firmware update and installed it. But I also checked the hardware settings...and (boy you're good! ) Sure enough my dvd burner had gone to that PIO mode. What it that (PIO)? Should I change it (back?) to DMA? If I do change it will it stay in DMA? Sorry for all the "newbie" questions, but I have looked but my ignorance has kept me so far in the dark I don't even know if I'm looking in the right places....

Thanks for all your help,

most of the time you can't just reactivate DMA mode (unless you've never had it activated) ... what you'll have to do, is uninstall the IDE Bus in the device manager and afterwards reboot the computer (it will automatically reinstall your ide-bus and reactivate DMA mode)
