Pls I need your help. For you I am so-called newbie. Now to business. My friend is a bit of a professional in encoding and I asked him to make me a guide. He did it and I followed it carefully untill I had to use virtualdub. Well, there I set the filters (resize and null transform) and then compression. I chose Xvid MPEG-4 compression and then I had to press 'configure' button. Then a new window opens (Xvid configuration) and there I have to press 'advanced options'. And here is the problem. My friend says I should have six tabs but I have only three. And 'global' is missing. I have only 'motion', 'quantization' and 'debug'. Pls, encoders I know you master encoding, so I ask you for help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum-

I expect that your version of the XviD Codec is more recent than is your friends'. If you go back to the "Select Video Compression" screen, and then select "Xvid MPEG-4 Codec", the "About" button becomes available. If you hit that, it will give you the version and date. You can compare your version with his.

It is true that we don't have the same versions. But the one that my friend has is outdated and is no longer available.

No I can't use it. Hm, my friend also said sth about codec packs. He said they are crab and that I should always install codecs separately. I removed Nimo codec pack but friend says that there is still data in registry. So you can't help me?

Hi-

So you can't help me?

Help you with what? Removing leftover registry entries from the codec packs? Not I. Maybe someone else can.

Help you with encoding to XviD? Yes, that we can do.

Here are Doom9's XviD Guides;

If you're just getting started, I might suggest using Auto Gordian Knot. And for full detail about all the XviD settings, I might recommend Crusty's FAQ:
