View Full Version : Low sound volume in a video file

When I play an avi file in winamp the volume is very low.
When I open the same file with MPC the sound volume is normal.

Winamp plays all other video files I have just fine.

GSpot tells that the file is Divx5 and that the Audio codec of the file is "0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3".

Anyone know how can I fix this?

Sure, the volume slider... :D

Demux the mp3 -> convert it to a wav -> boost its volume -> re-encode to mp3 -> mux again = louder + quality loss !!!

I'm sure there's a different solution instead of converting to wave and back to mp3.
I mentioned that in Media Player Classic the sound is ok so it must be something about the setting and not about the file itself.

I've had the same problem with a file encoded with AC3Filter and the problem was that in the AC3Filter configuration the volume was low (has nothing to do with winamp).

Ok, now the real solution...

Lurk around for a "limiter/compressor/normalizing" plugin !!!

Can you explain it better?
If I need to download something that will fix this can you give me a specific program name or link?

Is this a plugin I have to add to the winamp input plugins and there I will be able to control the volume?

Winamps page has also a nice search function... (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?search=yes&filter=C&query=limiter+normalizer+compressor) ;)

Normalizer: Makes the volume of all your audio equally*

Compressor: Reduces the dynamics in your audio**

* Works like a "intelligent" volume slider

** Makes only quiet passages louder

For the installation...

Most of this plugins are "you dont have to do anything" self-installing !!!

Otherwise...

- Put them into your Winamp/plugins directory

- Activate them @ settings -> DSP (or so...)

But it must be something specifically about the audio codec that this video uses.
These plug-ins are general.
