trouble burning dvd back ups

I have made several back up copies of my collection, but i have been having problems recently. i use dvd decripter to rip it to the hard drive and dvd shrink to copy it. some of my back ups are fine, some play but skip often, and some just do not burn. any help would be great. i use xp pro, lite on dvd burner and nero 6.3. i use ritec g8 discs, i burn at 2x or 4x, after a while the option to burn at 2x goes away, and even if i set it for 2x, it will sometimes burn at 4x anyway. please help this newb. this is what nero says when it doesn't burn

hi and welcome to the forum,
this problems sounds like a bad media issue to me... have you tried burning the same movie to a different brand of media, maybe a more expensive one, bought as a single pack in order to be more sure to not have a badly manufactured disc?!

anyway, it could also be a burner - media compatibility issue. pls check www.dvdrhelp.com for other peoples experiences!

use imgtools to create an iso and burn it with dvd-decrypter. If it succeds, there is a problem in the installation of Nero, if not u have drivers issues to solve in your system.

i have tried tdk and sony media with the same mixed results. the sony and tdk are only 2x and the burner burns it in 2x and i have better luck. i am leaning towards a driver issue, but am unsure of where to go with it. i am going to try to update my computer and see if that helps. i did not know you could burn with dvd decripter, i will search the forums for more details about that.
