View Full Version : Possible problem with DanniDin's website?

I hate to be alarmist, but last night I downloaded the latest BeSweetGui and ran it (v0.6). Near the bottom-right corner of the screen, there is a link to DanniDin's website. I accidentally clicked on it. After a LONG DELAY, I saw the infamous 'cool web search' web page come up, then my browser locked up and I had to 'end-task' it.

Having been hit by the Cool Web Search virus/spyware/adware thing in the past (though on another computer, other network), I recognised this as a nasty situation. However, since I have the latest virus and spyware protection (and assuming that if I'd been hit it was already too late!) I decided to try again, taking notes ...

I observed where the link on the BeSweetGui screen was taking me; it was taking me to http://go.to/DanniDin (which looks odd but maybe OK). I then get a slew of 'error' popups, "A runtime error has occurred. Do you want to debug? line 0 error 'win155' is null or not an object". I then end up on DanniDan's page (an old version?). The title bar of the browser shows 'Mpeg2avi/ac3dec/vstrip GUI'. A look at the 'source' for the DanniDan page I was on had references to '/hotfreebies.html' amongst other things - may be legit. When I close this browser, a new browser window pops up, with no menu bar or status bar, from 'V3' - looks like a bogus search page. A third test again brought up 'cool web search' page.

If I try this on my winXP (SP2) box (going to 'http://go.to/DanniDin'), I get a pop-up blocker type warning, and I choose not to enable the popup, and thus go nowhere (end up with blank screen).

Anyway, not sure what or where the problem is exactly, but someone may have hacked someone's webpages so wanted to let you all know. I'm going to do a thorough cleanup on my machine. Hopefully, I'm clean ...
