I was backing up this AVI file but on play back on the DVD player on the computer there was a 1 second Sync problem with the audio.?
Santa DVD seems to accept one media file then encodes it. Then burns it straight on to DVD-R.
I wanted to know
1) how to work out Audio de-compression speeds i.e what to set the delay timer to.?
2) once got the info how to test the file before it automatically burns.?
I know this must be a basic question but why does the DVD-R play on a sony play station and all computers, but won't play on stand alone player.?
My appologies in advance if this is a mistake in asking this question. I know its codec related or I should be creating a MDR menu so a stand alone player can pick up the DVD-riped files.?

I once take a look on this app and found it very disapointing.
what sound file (MP2/PCM/DTS/AC3) have you backed up with this santa thing?
DVD is a media like a CDROM, do you use this media as CDROM or did mean the DVD-VIDEO standard? this could be the answer to your question: why does the DVD-R play on a sony play station and all computers, but won't play on stand alone player
Sync problem: use another application to work on the files, f.e. you can rip the original DVD stuff with dvddecrypter than further with virtualdubmod using any codec you prefer (I guess there are many good one-button-solutions on the other boards like here (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=1000&forumid=67) or here (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=1000&forumid=49)) at last correct the file delay with f.e. besweet...

Cheers,
CYA I've used Tmpenc and DvDdecryptor and shrink the two I can use for direct DVD to DVD standard, But it's the encoding part from DIVX and AVI files onto DVD standard that I'm trying to learn about it.
I'll try the F.E besweet to correct the sync haven't used that one before.! Will follow links for a guide on this app.
DVD Santa is quick and fast for the encoding thats why I use it but like you said the fact it's a one button solution limits the tweeking of the finer finsihed product.!
It was converted into AC3 after encoding so I might use some of those apps to seperate the Audio before burning instead of changing it before encoding.?
Will experiment and produce some Tea coasters.! The wife can't handle too many DVD ear rings. LOL.

youīre confusing me:
what do you have?
AVI + AC3?
MV2 + AC3?
what do you want?
DVD-Video (with IFO + VOB structure)?

:D :D :D
I guess you better do your test with DVDRW medias

Converting AVI to IFO and VOB structure which plays on stand alone DVD players.
Too be honest some files are different depending what was used to rip the originals. like I said I'm new at this but have a huge capacity to produce test by error.
I know I should use DVD-RW, but my plextor takes on board 1Xspeed on RW. It's painfull at best of times.!
I've found out last night that Cue and Bin files are quite good in quality something else to convert and learn about.!
Thanks

I've found out last night that Cue and Bin files are quite good in quality something else to convert and learn about.!
hä???
first: what has Cue and Bin to do with quality? Itīs only
a way of a CD image
second: converting an AVI to MV2 is not that problem if you use mpgencoder like CinemaCraftEndoder, TMPGENC,Canopus ProCoder, MainConcept ...
they all support presettings which work like:
input: AVI
output: MV2 (DVD PAL/NCST)
(finetuning of any kind is with every solution possible, please take a look on the video section!)
after encoding the video lets have a look on the sound (finally).
Am I right your AVI comes with a AC3 file? you also know the delay in ms?
Okay, letīs start IFOEDIT and author a new DVD (you will find the button ;) )
Input video file should be clear - input audio file by setting the right delay and RUN
thatīs it! or?
