View Full Version : Help Decrypting SRAW RATS

I just want to get the highest quality AVI's off the DVD that I can to be edited/color corrected/etc., in another program.

I used DVD Decrypter - clicked on a VOB and hit DECRYPT. I opened it in DGMPGdec's DGIndex, and as the VOB plays back, I can see the VOB Cell ID changing from 1 to 2 to 3 and then to 4 as it shows the different versions of the picture depending on which language you're viewing.

There is also a 2 frame distortion that happens during the Cell ID switch, creating a sort of jumbled interlaced-looking frame...

How do I isolate one of the Vob Cell ID's - say, just Cell ID #2, and extract that to a clean .d2v for use with VirtualDub. (VirtualDub's the way to go, right?)

Thanks,

_Mike

P.S. assuming processor speed and disk space are not a factor, are there any particular settings I should be checking for the best quality?

are you talking about a multiangle movie?!

Nope... if you have one of the alternate audio tracks selected, like Spanish, then the opening crawl appears in that language....

Sounds like multiangle to me. But even if not, set Up DVDDecrypter to Decrypt in IFO Mode (Mode->IFO), and take your pick in there.

Or you can Edit somewhat in DGIndex by isolating what you want using the "[" and "]" buttons.

And neither DVDDecrypter nor DGIndex has anything to do with best quality (unless you screwup choosing the Field Operation in DGIndex). That'll come when setting up the encoding.

You can also edit and color correct through AviSynth.

well when I press the Angle key, nothing happens during the crawl.. it only changes video if you've selected the alternate audio track.. but I'll try using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode.

If you want to create AVIs, then you should be using IFO mode. Your resulting video will be a single angle of a single Program Chain.

By default, it will select Angle 1 of the longest PGC on the disc, and you may select a different angle and a different PGC before ripping.

DVD2AVI/DGIndex cannot possibly manage multiangle vob sets, since they do not IFO parse. The angles will be intermixed, which is what you've described.

For more info, see Doom9's DVD Decrypter Guide (http://www.doom9.org/dvddec.htm).
