Heya folks,

I recently tried to install avisynth 2.5.5 over 2.5.4

I receive an error message from the installer saying:You need administrator rights to install AviSynth! \r\n\r\n (Could not write to registry)
the progress bar is probably about 20% across when this occurs.

I of course have administrator rights, but for good measure, I also did a "Run as" with the admin account. same result.

uninstall-restart-install yields same result.
install 2.5.4 works successfully.

WinXP Pro SP1 - Pentium-M-755
didn't find the install log, let me know where it is if there is one.

any ideas?

"(Could not write to registry)"

Are you sure some application is not protecting the registry? ( for example norton anti virus).

If yes, try to disable it before installing it.

if avs 2.54 is already installed, you could just overwrite the dll too.

@esby-
good thought, but there is nothing i am aware of protecting the registry.

avisynth 2.5.4 will install fine even after uninstall.

do you know of a link to the binaries without the installer app?

@esby

well first round testing has been successful! i copied it over 2.5.4 and "version()" reports 2.55.

now i just have to hope the new features don't need any registry stuff or support files. i'll post if i have any problems.

thank you!

Same problem here...
I've install 2.55 successfully on several machines.. but one of them just keeps asking for admin rights (which I too have) and mentions that registry problem... and no software I'm aware of protects the registry...
